Hi Guys. So as the title says...I changed my oil by putting 8 quarts of oil 6000 miles ago on 8/2016. Today I checked the service menu and it told me to add 1quart of oil. Should I be concerned? I don't see any oil leaks on the floor.

I'd be somewhat concerned. Maybe start by changing the oil and see how much you get out at least you could rule out a bad oil level sensor. How many miles are on your vehicle? Any obvious blue exhaust smoke? Maybe a bad pcv valve

The rig has 72,000 miles. I will be changing the oil this weekend. I'll advise how much oil I take out.

Anecdotally, when I bought my Audi S4 (in 2005) I was advised, and horrified, at being told Audi considered consumption of 1 qt per ~5000 miles to be normal. I never saw anything near that.

Just saying, it might be acceptable. Do you have any trend information on the consumption to go by?

My 04 Disco burned 1 quart every 400 miles! Not a drop anywhere (well, an occassional drop), ran fine for the 3 years I had it, no smoke, etc. I fed it Techron, Seafoam, and BG44K like candy to be safe. It had a rebuilt engine, but no one could ever figure out why it used so much with no other issues. Kind of PITA to take on a road trip though, always bringing oil...

My 08 LR3 burns about a quart every 5,000 now at 145,000 miles. My wifes 08 RR burns a quart every 7,500 miles at 110,000 miles. My old Passat started burning a quart every 5,000 miles as well after about 90,000 miles. Am I jinxed?

My first car was an old 1990 190E. Once it hit 150K or so, worn valve stem seals made it burn a quart every 1k miles. On my 2013 LR4, I changed the oil in November at 23k miles. I just checked it at 25k miles prior to a long trip and it hasn't dropped at all.

It's confirmed. I only evacuated 6.5 liters. I will be having my indie inspect to see if he can find anything wrong. Thanks for the replies.

Did you ever find out what was wrong? My 2010 RRS S/C has the same problem. After 7,000 miles it said add one quart. Had my oil change and now after 3K miles it went from Max to OK. I don't see any leaks but curious to know what you found out.

I just got the diff. and t.c. fluids changed at my indie shop and I told them about the quart of oil that was burned within the 6000 miles. They couldn't find anything and told me it was of no concern.

On another note, I also asked them about the transmission flush. To my surprise, they told me not to flush out the tranny oil because it was comprised of mineral oil instead of petroleum oil, and that the particulates that have built up act as lubrication. These guys seem real legit and have good reviews and only work on jags and rovers. I'd like to get others opinion on this matter. Thanks.
