So... when a u-joint is going out is it THIS that goes bad?

Or is it the actual U shaped joints that break?

And can you buy just the individual parts without buying the whole Driveshaft ??

Also If I were to change out the rear RotoFlex for U-joints what would I have to do??

Yes, the part you have listed under the "THIS" is the part that goes bad.. On the D2, the front driveshaft U-joints are not greasable and tend to go bad around 50k miles.

As far as the rotoflex, I can't remember off the top of my head what needs to be changed... but I will get back to you if no one else does.

Well took the Disco to a highly recommended driveline place today.
Dropped it off at 10 went back around 3:00 and it was ready to go.
The guy checked it all out said he took it appart to check it all out
and be sure but everything checked out really good.
Had him check the front axle as well. All good!?

They spent some time on it but really had nothing to fix.
These guys were really knowledgeable and due to a rash of
recent work on discos the guy was more than a bit turned off to them.
After all that they charged me nothing!!

Guess I'll start poking around some more.
After taking a real close look myself the front driveshaft would be
easy to service myself if i had the time and place to do it.

Bearings, calipers, anything else to check out?

About to make a 2100 mile trip this week.
At least I know I won't be stranded in the middle of Nowhere with
a trashed driveshaft and or worse.

For a 2100 mile trip, I would just make sure to top off all the fluids, carry extra of any fluids that might be low or has gone low before.

If you have an OBDII scanner I would take it. (just in case, if not it may not be needed)

Tire pressure, check it... I would probably change the oil and grease everything, as well.

Carry some basic tools (I always have stuff and never need it, but when I don't have it, I need it).
