meyersd, get the combustion leak tester from NAPA (<$50). The engine might need to warm up as to pressurize the cooling system but leave the rad cap off to let the gas escape. The results of this test will put an end to this discussion. Hope i am wrong. Feel free to be smug if I am.

Too late. Already paid for the work. I have been coolant smell free for almost a week. My cats are also very happy. I had an external leak on the drivers side head, so i had them both replaced, and a valve job done.
