Disco I rear view mirror help!

Hi,
I have a Discovery 96 and as everyone knows the autodimming rearview mirrors go bad. I have read about people emailing the company that makes them to get a replacement, and the company sent them a new one free of charge. I emailed the company and they emailed back saying that they will replace the mirror if the Discovery is still under warranty. These bad boys aren't under warranty any more but I've heard of people being sent new ones. What do I do?
