Engine fault warning

So I was driving home last night and after about 20 miles of smooth driving I start to exit off the highway and a engine fault warning displays in the message screen. The truck won't accelerate above an idle but still seems to be running smoothly. I pulled over and checked codes with the IID tool and no codes were found other than ventilation and tyre pressure. I turned the truck off and back on and all was fine. Has anybody seen this before? My guess is the ecu lost communication briefly but I don't know.
