Well, I for one wish you didn’t post this. I was living quite happily in denial.
Of course, you could have bought a new Kia for that total. But you’ll need at least double that for anything “real”.

Nice. I keep the same spreadsheet for mine, however, I deliberately chose not to include a cost column. I'm happier that way.

So you put about 17k in it since 2017?

$17000/84 months = $202 US/ month for upkeep. Doesn't seem crazy bad.. I'm at $107 Cdn/month ($75ish US) but I do most my own work and am thrifty.

Some of the big ticket items were preventative maintenance: diff/transfer case fluids, cooling system, power steering fluid flush, tranny fluid flush. Those were expensive, and end up making things look worse than they are, and should be relatively infrequent given how much we drive it. Other things were me just being proactive, like the compressor replacement, or replacing the entire LCAs rather than just the ball joints because I wanted to get away from the poly bushings. Hopefully with the preventative maintenance done the costs per mile and per month end up dropping going forward (barring me breaking something while offroading). I'm doing more of the work myself now too, which will also help. I'm not properly accounting for the store credits at FCPEuro from returning used fluids, either, but that hasn't been significant.

when people talk about cents per mile do they typically include or exclude the cost of the vehicle?

Oh god... why did you do this? My list is pretty extensive, including but not limited to everything you did plus 2 transmissions (1 new and 1 used), timing chain, exhaust manifold gaskets, 2x rear driveshafts, new cooling components twice, new air suspension overhaul, new front diff, countless oil changes, 4x batteries, and that's just normal stuff. I didn't include 2 sets 6x wheels and tires, brake conversion, roof rack, rtt, ladder, 270 awning, regular awning, ensuite shower, hidden winch, rear tire carrier, etc...

OMG... I may have easily doubled your expenses minus labor after warranty expired. No wonder why my wife is always mad at me for working on the truck.

I think it is up to the user. When talking maintenance I just use whatever money I have plowed into it divided by the months of ownership or miles driven. With total cost of ownership I use that I paid for it minus an estimated current sale price to give a current running number. For instance I am currently using a $10k Cdn ($7.2k US) estimated sale price. That being said in my mind the LR4 was depreciated off a long time ago and owes my nothing. If something major popped up it would be the hard decision time. I ma hobby fix it over time.

People often ask what things cost, I figured I'd add some data for folks to help make decisions. I don't think it's terrible, to be honest - it's been a great vehicle for our family of 6 and has found a renewed purpose as an adventure vehicle now that kids are growing up.

I probably should have excluded "discretionary" items, such as the XLifter and trailer brake controller, those aren't really maintenance. When I do sliders, that also isn't maintenance and won't go on that list. Perhaps I'll add a separate table for discretionary items where I can also track the gear I've accumulated for off-roading. Lucky for me, ours came with timing chains done when we bought it, and had I paid closer attention to the paperwork, I believe the cooling system had also been done so I could have saved myself that expense. Likewise, I get codes about the MAP sensor still and probably need to clean the throttle body, rather than throwing new sensors at it repeatedly (again me not consulting my history). Looking at the history helps me in selecting repair shops too, some I will likely avoid, some others only go for certain work, etc. Hopefully others in the Portland area can find some benefit in the data too.
