Hello to all members and especially one out there that can help:
I have a 1988 L/Rover 90 2.5 litre petrol which has recently started to run very erratically. It will run perfectly and then intermittantly start to mis fire and die. I have particulary noticed it occurs when on over-run or with very little throttle.
I have so far changed the points, condensor, HT lead set, plugs, rotor arm, disi cap, new carburettor (made no difference), new fuel filter and cleaned through the fuel lines from the vapour separator to the tank. I have bought a new fuel pump but when looking at its flow rate versus the old one it looks the same so I have not fitted it (yet!). I have concluded it can only be a limited number of possible causes (fuel supply or ignition) but so far have got no where.
I will try a new coil next but wondered if anyone has had any similar problems or can advise on obvious causes I may have over-looked.

Cheers,
Ian

Not sure on this exact issue, but I do know that older Land Rovers have issues with ground. I could be that you have a bad ground(earth) connection.

I would start by checking any grounds that may be connected to ignition or fuel related items.

after checking the ground and if the problem persists you may need to check the head gasket as you were saying the engine runs fine for a while then starts to miss fire this can happen if the head gasket has gone
