I am starting to design a new audio system form my 05 LR3 HSE. In the past there has been some talk about the subwoofer. I thought some may enojoy some subwoofer pics. As I once indicated, it is a strange unit. Basically, an inside-out woofer.

Is that your subwoofer design or the factory woofer?

I didn't know where it was locatated (always wondered). It looks like its in the tailgate?

Indeed, it is the stock subwoofer in the tailgate.

No wonder it's barely noticeable. Would it be difficult to replace it with an aftermarket unit? Doesn't look like there's much room in there.

I assume that is what schafari is going to figure out when designing his updated sound system. The biggest problem with the space is that it's generically bad for a subwoofer. Odds are you'll rattle the hell out of it instead of generate accurate/clean bass... even with significant sound dampening material.

I may be tone-deaf, but I can't tell if the stock sub is on or off at any given time. I have the HSE with the "enhanced" sound system. Looks like LR stuck a $5 sub in the tailgate and jacked the price on the car $1,000.

Really? I definitely notice mine. Its not street pounding bass, but I do notice if its on/off or when I adjust the level of it.

Try playing something -- obviously something with a little bass, and put your hand on it. If you feel nothing, time to visit your fabulous dealer.
