new to land rovers

i have a 98 disco and when i accelerate it sounds fine but when i let off the gas i hear a horrible grinding noise. checked the fluids and everything looked fine. i'm stuck and any info would be grateful. thanks

When you say you checked the fluids, have you checked the front and rear diff as well as the transfer case?

Without hearing the sound, I would guess and say you either have a bearing going bad or a u-joint.

Jack up one wheel in the front and move the drive shaft around to check the u-joint... then do the same in the back.

How did you check the fluids, did you check the level or do a drain and refill since it most likely needs it by mileage.
I would not drive it till you find and fix the problem cause it is going to break down very soon.
