You shouldn't increase your fuel consumption that much, so it should be still affordable. If this is going to be a problem, don't buy one. You will also have to pay to have it installed and you engine tuned.

I'm going to buy a Tornado chip upgrade for the GEMS ECU on my UK 4.6HSE Range Rover.

It is available through RPI http://www.rpiv8.com/carbs-4.htm near Norwich in the UK. I think that this area is simply too complex as it seems impossible to get all the data together to make a decision as to which is best. My decision is based on the fact that the GEMS ECU in standard config can cause premature damage due to it generally running too lean. Yes the chip also increases BHP and fuel efficiency etc but this is my reason for going this way. Read the customer comments (http://www.rpiv8.com/comments-Range-Rover.htm#Newrangie).

I've just been looking at the Powerchip fitting instructions. It appears that the chip that you replace is just the fueling control chip and not the one for the air contol. It's a bit of a con this one - RPI send you 2 chips (fuel and air) so the upgrade will be better.
