Dumb question here. I have the full size roof rails with cross bars and over the weekend I had to put a mattress on my roof and it was a pain to strap down with a ratchet strap. What are you tricks to getting a ratchet tie down for the roof?

I didn't have anywhere to "hook" the straps to. So I had to basically wrap the hook around the strap and the ratchet was underneath the mattress which made it hard to tighten. Guess what I'm looking for is some sort of eye hooks that I connect the hooks to.I'm not following, what was the part that was a pain?

$94! Damn! Wonder why these can't be placed inside the side rails instead of the crossbars. Is there such a thing for the side bars like this?Land Rover has an accessory called "Tie Downs." They come as a set of 6 and slot onto the cross bars. Not cheap but work perfectly, especially when using rope that fits through the round hole. Land Rover Rocklin has them in stock.
