I took my LR4 in to get some things fixed that were missed while in service last time and I asked them about the oil smell when flogging it. They wouldn't do a test drive over 3k RPM so I told them to forget about it. They did the service work and said the vacuum pump was leaking onto the exhaust. Is that possible?

I agreed to $990 for the repair. I didn't think it through and thought I'd need to do hydraulic work. It doesn't require bleeding the brakes so now I'm regretting that badly lol. At least they will stand behind their work. And the last shop that did my control arms said I needed tie rods. I called for a quote later on $1k to replace inner and outer tie rods. I was under there yesterday and the ball joint boots looked good and I didn't see or feel any movement. My indy today said the tie rods are fine.

I suppose oil leaking from vacuum pump could wrap around to the exhaust.
It stank on the way home after they replaced the part, but before I left he said to give it 3 days for the residue to burn off. He also checked the valve covers and there wasn't any oil residue. I'm not that hopeful tbh but I won't know until I give it more time.
