I can't recall anybody on this site having this problem, which is that the variable valve timing actuator makes a clattering noise upon startup. It lasts for about a second and then disappears. From what I've read elsewhere, it doesn't really cause any damage so I haven't fixed it.

Anybody else have a failing VVT? Or fix it?

Start changing the oil more frequently, and see if it goes away?

Don't think that's it. Changed twice since and very regularly over its life. Also tried sea foam, a real engine flush, and a few other additives.
