Will she run without a MAF?

Anyone ever done this? Can you remove it, open the butterfly, and just have it run rich?

TIA.

Yes, it will run, but it may not run well, and it will cause more issues in short order.

The reason that I ask, is because I have had a horrible run with my 'Rover.
'97 Disco I, 135,000 miles. Recently, she's been something of a b*tch. A new starter, new downpipe with cats, and 4 o2 sensors - I leave the dealership - and she won't do more than 10 miles an hour - popping and making all sorts of weird noise. I don't want to drop the $700+ they're asking for the MAF sensor (still not sure that is what the problem is - but I'm quite positive). I have to wait to find a used one, but in the meantime, I have to get it home.....

Sorry, if it is a bad MAF sensor it should clear up when you unplug it... at least for a little while.

But I would say your issue isn't the MAF sensor... sounds like either coil packs or the CAM, or course it could be as simple as a bad knock sensor or somthing similar. A little background would help. Service history... When did this start, what was done prior to the issue starting?

Could be a completely fried VSS too. I know someone in Illinois who couldn't do over 25mph. It's usually 60mph, but anecdotally it's possible for other speeds to be the limit.

$1800 later, she runs.
New MAF
New downpipe, o2's, etc...
New fuel pump.

I love my 'Rover.....(figure if I repeat that enough, it will make me feel better :)

Wow. Glad to hear it worked out. I find that repeating that mantra does help. A little.
