    Signing off

Best wishes to you and have a safe and fun time with your new vehicle . I put my 2020 Defender 400P money into stocks ( together with my mother's bequest to me ) back in late March , for income and CG , so the New Defender is off the radar for me . I had to make a call , and finance came first ...

    Oil type specification for V8

Engine oil really is being over thought these days . Any decent synthetic in the region of 0-5w / 30-40 will do .

    LR4 vs Defender

In it's latter years it was dreadful . A mess of LandRover and Ford parts . Bad assembly too . The 2020 Defender is quite a price though , as it's a LR4/5 type product with good profit .....

ZF 8HP refill - showing full before replacing amount drained

The temp of fluid is a volume measuring procedure . As long as the engine is running and had the gearshift worked through as described , I've found that anything fairly blood-temp is close enough . There's still air in the system , and there's not going to be a problem like a water boiler with...

    "Debadged" Hood / Bonnet...

Removing lettering or changing it isn't so rare . I've seen many vehicles ( not just LR/RR ) where the rear-specification is blank because they're not HSE and the owner doesn't like the down-spec lettering . Common to see this on Merc . I've a 2007 LR3 and prefer LAND ROVER to Discovery ...

    Transmission Slop

In your climate , I'd be changing out the HP8 oil regardless . I just did mine and it's a considerable improvement , not to mention an extra 3mpg with the improved friction ! At the speed you mention this problem happening , that's unusual . Check universal joints and CV for starters . "Lash"...

Every time my LR4 is inspected, the bill...

That doesn't say anything about what's been done . I could run up a bill like that too , but there would be a fair few things fixed for that amount . How about the rest of the invoice please ?

    2012 fault lights!!!!

Short of a short-circuit caused by water ingress corrosion ( good luck with that ! ) , look at the valve block distribution for the compressed air suspension. It can only be vented through that valve assembly box . If that faults , it'll lower the bags to the bump-stops . It's a cheap part and...

    Should I take the plunge?

The Company is dropping like a brick . They make street cars for Asia nowadays imho . It's finished , for me .

    Should I take the plunge?

My opinion is to buy it . The late LR4 are the last of the good Land Rovers . Chassis , engine sorted and quirks fixed . Forget the possible new Defender . All they make are crap street cars now . You've got a bird in the bush ....................

    Battery Life

Not a good idea to have left it past four years . In cars with small ( and cheap ) batteries , I ditched them ever 36 months regardless of their cranking performance . Even large batteries with 850 CCA are well under USD150 these days .

    Clock running slow

Most car clocks run slow . I've not had one in 25 years that hasn't . It's nothing to do with an impending dead battery . Whether my batteries are brand new or five years old , it's the same .

    LR4 v. New Disco

Importer's customer research mob phoned me yesterday and asked me for a view on my recent encounter . I got the impression it's due to the poor take-up of the new launch. Told them I thought the interior was a bad design ( just for example , third row get no aircon unless glass roof option...

    LR4 v. New Disco

I drove one a few months back and won't be going from LR4 to LR5 . The inside is too small/reconfigured and I don't like the shape-direction the Company has taken. A long association is now over for me . It was fun whilst it lasted : starting with a Series III 88" diesel many years ago .

    Battery Life

I buy a new battery every 3 years . Just installed the second replacement in a 2007 4.4 HSE LR3 Every replacement is a little more power and a lot less cost too . These 800cca-class batteries are becoming more common place , so they're easier to get at no notice . No need for Varta originals...
