But… how many miles on those cats? All filters eventually clog.

Thoughts on switching from 5w20 to 5w40 as miles approach 200K?

For your entertainment… especially the part where 0w-16 showed less wear than 0w-30. Go figure…

    Good buyers guide overview

hmmm, I find the responses interesting. Sure, I did purchase a high mileage one. I did what was necessary to safety it. I did replace the generator. And as I always do, I replaced all fluids and filters and the batteries and pcv valves. Yes, I have the leak but the windscreen was replaced...

    Maf Sensors...

P0101-00 is Sensor A. Are you certain it is securely attached and clean. Also, what did you replace the air filters with? And, are they matched?

Thoughts on switching from 5w20 to 5w40 as miles approach 200K?

Switching to a w40... no. w30... 'maybe' in a diesel. But that engine... I'm not doing it. I still run 10w30 in a 1985 volvo marine diesel with LOTS of hours. And she purrs. I used w40 once and she ran a little off/rough. I changed it back after only a few running hours.

    High Pressure Fuel Pump Question

LOL, I like my noisy HPFP solution. It makes the tapping sound of a diesel. :) I'm afraid if I change it, I'll lose the distinctive noise. ;-) @Pfunk951 , that would be awesome. BTW, No, the chains and glides are fine.

Serpentine/Accessory belt failure on a very wet, dark MI road in the middle of nowhere...

… fwiw, in Canada, if the job is completed at the dealer, there is a 1 year parts and labour warranty. The OEM part lasted this long…. I’m surprised there wasn’t some telltale sign/noise before the demise. Incidentally, I have been successful in bartering at the dealer… Cheers!

Transmission taking too long to shift

As I responded earlier, I just use S on the selector. There is no need to select the dynamic terrain response system.

Serpentine/Accessory belt failure on a very wet, dark MI road in the middle of nowhere...

:-). handheld, 2 channel, transmitting radios like the Baofeng uhf/vhf w/ gps (8 W) are so affordable … with an optional long distance antennae.

    Control Arms

But, the housing for “some” of the bushings in the arms are rather “light” and can be “mangled” if the bush isn’t switched appropriately… which is why LR and others provide the bush attached to the arm. @BigBriDogGuy , perhaps just live with what you have until it is “swap it out” time. It is...

Serpentine/Accessory belt failure on a very wet, dark MI road in the middle of nowhere...

@Longtrail , Many here would disagree…. but I don’t pre-emptively replace any “component” of the vehicle unless it is explicitly called out in the maintenance schedule or, there has been reduced effectiveness… Unless, you just want to overhaul the whole engine anyways. For example, the water...

    2012 LR4 Electrical power loss

Jeepers, thats a problem. By looking at the electrical diagram, can you nail this down to one fuse box? if not, one mega fuse? If not, one battery lead or grounding point? Specifically, which systems are affected?

    2016 LR4 3.0L engine vs v8

and there is the age question. In fact, I too had this same debate. The outcome surprises me. Truly, the v6 has not disappointed me yet. And I don’t have to deal with the aging v8 maintenance issues, This is not to say I wouldn’t want the v8, but that this vehicle works without it .

2010 LR4 coolant level low issue

Ok…. Fyi and as per the suggested maintenance schedule I flush brake fluid, coolant, and power steering fluid. I have not changed my water pump, or oil cooler and the thermostat only once. Good call on the PCV valve, @ttforcefed .

I have not touched the heater hoses, the water pump nor the thermostat. Also, I have not touched the oil cooler tube. Cheers

2010 LR4 coolant level low issue

    1. You have not changed your coolant in 7-8 years! Firstly, it is a closed system and there should be no evaporation. Secondly, I wonder how the pH has changed and what is getting eaten away. 2. Hot / cold fluctuating temperatures with plastics do not fair well. 3. Most of us have changed all...

    2012 LR4 150k Mile Maintenance

@BigBriDogGuy , glad you have found and gone to the right shop. Finding that level of expertise is difficult as typically these shops are run so humbly. They are busy enough. Become a regular… even if just for an oil change.

Transmission taking too long to shift

And yet, I always use S as I grew up expecting as you released the pressure on the accelerator, a vehicle should actually, noticeably slow. And not continue in a neutral state. (that is, using its engine brakes, and adjusting the gears appropriately) Moreover, the extremely low gear shift rpms...

Transmission taking too long to shift

@Longtrail , Do see the process here: https://aftermarket.zf.com/app/controller/ti/download/Binary/5a709c41-c80e-11ed-a2f4-00505690da53.pdf Truly, just use KISS. Meaning, 90% of the very transmissions out there do not have the external, non ZF endorsed zipkit. I would ignore the idea for now.

Zip kit and fluid change, now won't go past 5th

OMG! sorry you experienced that. Unfortunately, its a case of “he said, she said”. Then as you put it “… the test drives…” And unless you have undisputed proof of the health prior to this fiasco… And I will just put this out loud, once: is the zipkit necessary… Best of luck, @greiswig !!
