At Long Last... Modern head unit!

Thanks for all the info. Gotta think real hard if it’s worth losing the 4x4 page for this over the naviplus style one I bought, which was about the half the price of your setup

that’s mentioned as well, albeit separately. We’ll all keep waiting for OP.

At Long Last... Modern head unit!

I saw this on their site, but seeing it in person makes me rethink the naviplus style unit I just bought. I see the site says something about “retaining factory radio information” does that mean it can show the 4x4 info?

Gas smell after driving. No error codes. No visible leaks.

Just wanted to update, my truck looks like it has the “updated” design, but still failed. If I have to do it again, I want to do it on a lift or a bigger garage, but it’s an easy job.

    Trunk slide

A slide from a 5th gen will probably fit in the back of a LR4

    Trunk slide

5th gen 4runners are REAL close in size back there. I’d just buy one of those.

how’d you get 17s on there? Switch to the small Australian brakes?

2013 LR4 I'm new need advice on wheels

Yup. Lift doesn’t fix tire rub, on any vehicle. Find where it’s rubbing, trim/cut it off.

Gas smell after driving. No error codes. No visible leaks.

Just ordered this, haven’t inspected anything but I am getting a distinct smell of fuel. The gasket was $10 and the cover piece was $50 from rock auto. That should be it? I’ll drop the tank in the garage, not looking forward to it but not anything I haven’t done before.

2013 LR4 I'm new need advice on wheels

It’s not the price, people take brand new Jeeps on the trail, new Defenders too. And you can’t apply the same mods. They don’t exist. But I do agree that it’s a capable trick. Honestly, they’re a set of long travel CVs and UCAs, maybe some gears, and lots of sawzall from being actually correct...

2013 LR4 I'm new need advice on wheels

I haven’t pushed mine, but I know what the trucks are capable of seeing them at events in person. They are FANTASTIC tourers, and amazing at mild wheeling but simply cannot keep up with solid front (and rear) axle rigs when it gets real rough. You say 17” of clearance? Ok well at full boner the...

2013 LR4 I'm new need advice on wheels

Unless you really need to air down for serious stuff, the stock size is fine. I’m going to 255/60-19 toyos bc I’m on the road 90% of the time. I’ve been airing down the stock junk contis the beach to 18psi no problem. I have no desire to turn this truck into a “wheeling rig.” That’s a long...

V8 owners try this and let me know: sand mode

snow mode is going to LIMIT slip. so it's good for highway running and such, where you dont want wheel spin. If you're in deep snow you should be using mud/ruts. also, these factory continentals SUCK. embarrassingly so.

    Easy airing up/down

You're still taking the compressor out of the bag and alligator clip-ing it to the battery at this stage? I'm planning on putting a viair 300 where next to the brake booster like I saw either here or on another forum. No need for a tank to just air up tires.

New air struts and Lucky 8 SYA kit

If you are "still wrestling" with it, you dont need the extra sidewall. 255/60-19 XL rated AT3s will fit with no modifications, and the truck will be 100% unchanged on the highway. You get a GREAT tire and a little more sidewall with zero downsides. Get the GAP tool for it's diagnostics, not bc...

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

I dont think the M1 meets the Ford/JLR spec. I know AMSOIL does, no idea about the Costco oil. I did my first change with the OEM Castrol but I'll be switching to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum for the next one. It meets the spec and everything I've used that juice I've gotten good results. I'm going...

    Showoff Your LR4

thats a lot of driving! if we weren't fully pandemic'd with a new baby I would have racked up more miles by now (I'm only doing 200ish a month right now, my commute alone used to be 1k a month). anxious to get a good road trip in, hopefully this summer.

New air struts and Lucky 8 SYA kit

you will be able to roll on bumps with 32s. There are only two 255/65-19 tires available right now, the goodyear adventure and duratracs. 255/60-19 there are a couple more, toyo AT3 being the one to get IMO.

posting up here, just went through almost the whole thread. picked up this one owner, 46k mile, HD pack, colorado 2013 and had it shipped to NY in december. looked a long time and found a good one. Had a pickup for the last couple years, but was ready to get back into a wagon and missed my...

New air struts and Lucky 8 SYA kit

I wouldn't describe LR4s as being able to tackle "fairly difficult trails," but I come from wheeling Jeeps with axle swaps and big big tires. You can do the Rubicon, but its going to suck read this: https://expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/an-lr3-on-the-rubicon.159420/ If rocks are your...
