5.0L Crankshaft Seal Leak, Request Advice

Ok, just wanted to close the thread because I hate when I’m trying to find solutions on other threads and they lead to a dead end. I ended up deciding on taking it into the dealer because: 1. I didn’t want to spend a week doing the work myself near the holidays, which I know would have turned...

5.0L Crankshaft Seal Leak, Request Advice

So got a quote from the dealer just out of curiosity. Of course it was steep. But what threw me off is that they want to charge me for a new crank pulley… as long as it’s not damaged I should be able to use the same pulley, right? Quote attached.

5.0L Crankshaft Seal Leak, Request Advice

Ok, after doing some more research, and before I commit to the job. Just wanted to make sure I am thinking along the correct path. Looks like to get to the timing chain cover, I’d need to (not in exact order): 1. Remove air intake boxes 2. Drain coolant 3. Disconnect coolant hoses around the...

5.0L Crankshaft Seal Leak, Request Advice

Yea, I was thinking about maybe doing the timing chains. I’ve already done the coolant system since that leaked 4 years ago. Also maybe the “new style” vacuum pump since the old one is known to leak. For the timing chains, I have a 2013, I know they went to the new upgraded tensioners in ‘13...

5.0L Crankshaft Seal Leak, Request Advice

Thanks for the info! Are these timing chain covers 1 time use? I think I saw a video stating the gasket seal for the timing chain cover is built into the cover and are 1 time use. Just trying to figure out if it’s just easier to buy a new cover that has the crankshaft seal already installed...

5.0L Crankshaft Seal Leak, Request Advice

Ok, did some clean up. After closer inspection, I can see that the crankshaft pulley sleeve is wet and glistens when a flashlight is shined on it. I can’t see how the vacuum pump could leak oil that far up the engine block. Now 99.9% sure it’s the crankshaft seal. Debating how complicated of a...

5.0L Crankshaft Seal Leak, Request Advice

Hmm, good point. Hard to say for certain. I’ll clean up the area and keep monitoring it. It’s pretty gunky and wet directly behind and below the crankshaft pulley so idk if it’s the vacuum pump since that would mean the oil leak would have to travel up to the crankshaft seal area. But that...

5.0L Crankshaft Seal Leak, Request Advice

Hey Everyone, Just discovered an oil leak coming from what I suspect is the front crankshaft seal. 99% positive anyway. Has anyone had this issue on a 5.0 and had it fixed. If so, couple questions.. 1. How much did it cost to fix. 2. If DIY how hard was it? (I try to do all my own...

    Are these air struts bad?

Thanks for the responses everybody. The pictures were taken while in the normal setting not off-road or access. The only reason I asked is because I just bought some 265/65r18, Tuffant Wheels, and Xlifter and figured I may replace the struts while I’m installing the new wheels/tires. I want to...

    Are these air struts bad?

2013 LR4, the rear air struts look like they may be bad. No codes or any abnormal lights being posted, car rides fine. Put the truck in high clearance mode overnight to see if it sags, but she held fine the next morning. Only thing I notice is that it looks like there is a very slight bit of...
