Prolonged engine choke operation when starting from cold

Fair comment. I am just a rabid non-idler re pollution, which is somewhat ironic I realise. It's more that I dont recall it doing this before, so was wondering if something is out of whack.

Prolonged engine choke operation when starting from cold

Hi, Not a major issue, but wondering if easy fix? Have noticed this winter on cold startup the revs are staying at 1,200rpm when I shift into drive resulting in a bit of a jolt as drive engages. If I blip the gas before engaging drive, revs stay at 1,200rpm instead of non-choke 600rpm. In...

Coolant Crossover Pipe Leaking? Found an EASY way to tell!

Huh....... awesome use of technology! What did it cost? Can see .any uses for that when trying to detect elsewhere too. Thanks for sharing

When is it time to say goodbye?

Yeah, RAV 4 defo not on the menu. I did consider a Porsche cayenne when I originally got the LR4. Probably a VW toureg TDI would make sense re. Gas mileage. Obvs would love an elderly one with V10. Also looked at previously. Main concern was it seemed that every other repair involved jacking the...

When is it time to say goodbye?

Oh dear........ another life-long assumption shattered. I know the early BMW minis were shockingly unreliable and $$ to repair.

When is it time to say goodbye?

A4 wagons and all road plentiful, but not much bigger than my old Saab 9-3 sport combi. My 14yo is 5'11" and 140lbs. He complains about being cramped in the back of the LR4! Yeah, BMW's also $$$ to maintain. However, I was assuming / hoping Germanic engineering more reliable than LR?

When is it time to say goodbye?

Agree re. Leasing. I was only using that as an example of similar cost for a less luxurious vehicle, albeit with latest gadgets. I can claim partial car costs as business expense which helps. Audi A6 wagon on list, but not many used for sale. BMW never sold 5 series wagons here. Not sure about...

When is it time to say goodbye?

Huh, just checked LR4 prices in Autotrader. Looks like I could probably sell it for about the same as I paid for it in January, 2018. The upside to Covid! Of course, benefit only really accrued if I don't replace it with anything :(

    Lr4 coolant bleed valve screw

But they degrade too like the pipe itself. Maybe you reused it and it got brittle and came apart? I have heard of catastrophic coolant loss being due to the bleed screw self-detonating, as opposed to the pipe failing.

    Lr4 coolant bleed valve screw

Maybe silly question, but the front crossover part does not come with a new bleed screw. Any chance you re-used the old one?

When is it time to say goodbye?

Diesel? Of course all LR4's and every other SUV should be diesel..........THANK YOU VW for terminally killing diesels in North America not only once, but twice! Even though diesel popularity is waning in Europe due to VW and particulate emission concerns, in my mind we would all be better off...

When is it time to say goodbye?

But are you factoring in what your time is worth re. Queuing up for 2hrs per fill up at Costco? One near us, but line ups are always crazy long, so have never bothered.

When is it time to say goodbye?

VW ID4? Just checked it out. Nice! 240k miles? Mine is just shy of 100k miles. Hell, its good for another 12yrs at least! Good luck with the sale. With covid premium, good time to sell.

When is it time to say goodbye?

That is 60k miles from New? Thats the mileage I bought mine at. Since then US14 cents/mile excl. Fuel and depreciation :(

That sounds like a v efficient use of funds. Congrats! Unlike my LCA replacement last year. A learning experience. Next time it will be a doddle!

When is it time to say goodbye?

Yikes! My mechanic recently said you need to be a home mechanic or you are looking at $CAD5k annually going forward to keep a 2010 LR4 on the road

When is it time to say goodbye?

I didn't say I wasn't a risk taker! My last exposure to Alfas was circa rusted out Alfa suds in 1980's. Vaguely hoping past 40yrs was enough time for Alfa to deliver gorgeous designs AND reliability? Haven't researched modern Alfas yet, but on radar.

mid-2000's M3 high on my list as a modern classic to own!

When is it time to say goodbye?

All good points raised. I have never bought a new vehicle. My usual car buying model is to buy something used at 3-4yo and go for vehicles that depreciate heavily. That way you get a bargain. Idly looking at Alfa Romeo Stelvio's. Still a bit newish, but if modern Alfa values do not drop like a...

When is it time to say goodbye?

Unfortunately we are a one car family, so while our annual mileage is not high, our LR4 is our sole vehicle.
