Transmission - Mechatronic Valve Body Sleeve (TZV500010) replacement - help!

Nice! Great write up. This was definitely near the top of my list of many, many things I thought: "I am going to take this apart but I'm not sure I will get it back together right" Number one on the list is the Jeep TJ Rubicon front axle locker engaged indicator switch because if you do remove...

Transmission - Mechatronic Valve Body Sleeve (TZV500010) replacement - help!

Also, that tab holding the metal line in your first pic, you can just bend it out, move stuff out of the way to get your hand in there IIRC.

Transmission - Mechatronic Valve Body Sleeve (TZV500010) replacement - help!

I was worried about this as well when I did this on my 2013 ZF6 but it goes in and out much easier than I thought, despite the restricted access. You will be able to get it in and out, have faith.

Transmission taking too long to shift

Agree you do not need jack stands or for the wheels to be free moving to do this procedure. I've done it twice and you don't need to. It's not just a waste of time its a dangerous one at that. Once you refill the first time, you put it in all the gears for a 10 seconds to fill up all the...

Transmission taking too long to shift

I had similar weird issues with the trans in my 2013 and thought it was on the way out at 95k two summers ago. I did one fluid change with Lubeguard and that helped a lot but not 100% (you can't get all the fluid out in one change). I then did the zipkit and another fluid change maybe 2k miles...

Zip kit and fluid change, now won't go past 5th

I agree they botched something in the install. It sounds like one of the pistons is stuck, not allowing it to shift into 5 and thus not any higher either. Also agree at 47k your fluid should be relatively fine.

2013 LR4 - Transmission Sonnax Zip Kit Completed - The Results

It's easy to overthink this job but it is rewarding and satisfying to do. I just found out a friend of mine did zip kits in 3 BMWs and everything was fine and he's kind of an idiot, lol.

2013 LR4 - Transmission Sonnax Zip Kit Completed - The Results

8 months later it still runs like a dream! Just take your time. I did not do any adaptation reset or anything. It worked just fine after a few seconds of flushing the air out of the lines. There isn't really any sediment, if you find that something is way wrong. Just burned fluid and some...

Is it a leaking passenger side valve cover gasket?

Leaking passenger valve cover gaskets seem to be common on this forum and I don't know why. My last LR4 had it but it was small enough I ignored it. It also depends on if its leaking ON to anything. Mine was in the back so not really leaking on to anything that mattered.

Update: The code came on right after an oil change and my wife was driving (she has bad luck with anything electrical, as did my father, anyone else know someone like this?) We parked it for a week (3rd car) as I was travelling. When I moved it behind the shed the light and code were gone. Now...

    Fluids change after 9 years?

Personally I wouldn't do anything if it is stored indoors and treated well otherwise. https://www.thedrive.com/news/motor-oil-age-doesnt-matter-as-much-as-mileage-study

    Aftermarket Exhaust anyone?

Engineers mostly balance things. Marketing people want more of everything. The business people want the most profit. The engineers find the balance.

    Aftermarket Exhaust anyone?

For me, as a mechanical engineer in a former life, it's less about look at me and more about how a 5.0L should sound. The factory exhaust kills all that. It could politely announce it's presence a little more IMHO.

    Aftermarket Exhaust anyone?

Another, probably cheaper, option is to find the best muffler guy in your area and seek his advice, he can delete the center muffler and swap the back ones with ones that will give the sound you want for way less than the complete cat back system.

Anyone end up buying their Grenadier order

If the D5 wasn't shaped like like an egg it wouldn't be such a bad rig. I spent a lot of time in my friend's D5 traveling between the major Texas cities and it is a great highway rig, better than the 4 luxury wise. I'm in a rental Jeep GC-L and it too is better on the highway but it feels like a...

This tech I talked to has seen a few failed chains in 12 years as a tech but only when they were already making a bunch of noise and throwing restricted performance codes.

Thanks to @ttforcefed I connected with a real pro and am going to go ahead with a full service including all the weak points and timing chain. I'll get his expert opinion on what was actually failing on my "updated" chains and have a full report back to the group. As @ryanjl said I thought I...

    2016 LR4 Landmark SCV6 Engine Failure at 65k. WWYD?

Super bummer and I feel your pain as I am in a somewhat less crappy position. 110k and I know the chains are loose. I have it parked up while I think about it. I was considering donating it as a 5th option but I don't even know if that would affect my taxes with the new standard deduction. In...

It's funny, in all my searches, in all the YouTubes, there are tons and tons of noisy chains, reduced power codes, cars barely running but nothing I can find of it letting go and catastrophically breaking the chain and wrecking the engine. The car sounds fine, I would drive it to someplace to...

Engine goes into reduced power mode

When I was digging around on my P0016 issue I came across this on another forum. I don't pretend to have any idea what the final sentence means TSB No: LTB00347 (ISSUE 1) 22 DEC 2010. Situation: On vehicles with the 5.0-liter naturally aspirated LR-V8 engine only, the engine Malfunction...

Correct, never been changed. Does not make any of the horrible chain noises I have seen on dozens of YouTubes. Anyone know of a reputable shop in NY, NJ, PA, DE, MD? There were two around here one closed when the guy retired and the other one has gone downhill.

Just got P0016, 110k miles '13 LR4. Chain inside oil filler has a about 1/2" of play, seems "loose" to me. Did everything we possibly could to prevent this when we got it at 67k. Frequent oil changes and whatnot. At a real crossroads here...

Anyone end up buying their Grenadier order

I'll be the contrarian and say that I like what they did there. It obviously is supposed to look like a fighter jet stick in front of those military style switch gear and for that look it works. The BMW guy in me totally sees the fish out of water as well but to the target buyer and for the look...
