    Transmission concerns

I'm digging up a dinosaur thread to add two cents to the hive mind: Wife's 2013 LR4 @100k was having intermittent transmission issues that consisted of an odd clunk here and there on upshift entering the highway after lifting the throttle, plus rpm fluctuations between 30 and 50mph, and a small...

    The Great Engine Oil Debate

FWIW this is our second 2013 LR4 and I have been using the Walmart Mobil 1 exclusively since we got it somewhere north of 50k and changing it every 6k, using Seafoam twice a year for these dirty injectors and sticking with premium gas and the damn thing runs like a sewing machine at 100k...

    LR4 at 100k questions/issues

    Thanks, all!

Help identifying 14-16 part (PCV hose) I broke while doing rear crossover.

FWIW pcv systems are very low pressure, like less than 5 lb, is it there any chance you can repair/glue it/ gaffers tape it, while you wait for a part?

    LR4 at 100k questions/issues

Hey, all. 2013 LR4 about to hit 100k. A few questions for the experts (as I just ceramic coated the gorgeous Loire blue and took her for an evaluation spin, the wife usually drives it but not much with these gas prices so it's been sitting a lot). Tranny seems to rev then "catch" from a stop...

    Roaring sound

Like a roaring fan sound from the front? I think of you search there are reports of the fan clutch going bad and having this problem. It's not a terribly difficult fix. Both LR4s we had have this roar at first and then it quiets down. If it isn't quieting down it's probably that viscous fan clutch.

    The Great Engine Oil Debate

Based on your very limited use of the LR4 I would not lose one wink of sleep over this. Next year use the 100% right oil instead of 99.5%. If you were DD this and towing 7000#? Maybe you would want to fix it.

    Defender v Bronco v Wrangler

I'd argue that Goodyear MT/R's with Kevlar are the greatest east coast off road tire. Source: 30 years of wheeling. They probably don't make them in any size that would help the defender though. I'm not sure where you got your info on the ground clearance. I think the D110 has less than an inch...

    Defender v Bronco v Wrangler

TJ, I agree. I still go back and forth on the look of the LJ. It does have some advantages off road.

I love how it censored the word that rhymes with fang and begins with b. The edit made me look bad!

Mostly because when I **** up my '04 Rubicon I know it won't cost 5 grand to fix!

    The Great Engine Oil Debate

That's our goal with this, our second 2013, which we are taking much better care of due to the advice on this forum. Hopefully its annual mileage will decrease dramatically if Elon ever delivers our Model Y and my grandkids can drive around in the vintage landy one day!

Air and newspaper noise on cornering -> Air strut bad?

Thanks all! I had the entire thing apart when I did the bearing and it made the same noise after it all went back together so it's not in the brakes. The flimsy disc cover was quite close to the disc but I can't imagine how cornering would flex it into the rotor. It does kind of sound like that...

    The Great Engine Oil Debate

FWIW I swear our second 2013 LR4 runs much quieter doing 7500 mi DIY changes with the forum recommended Mobil 1 from Walmart than our previous one did on the factory juice and interval. I think the interval matters way more than the dino lube.

    Please help

That's such a wide open question it's hard to know were to begin. There are many youtube videos on this and IIRC on one of them he did not put some of the connectors back correctly and it caused this no start issue that deviled him for a while. Might want to go through all the electrical...

    Defender v Bronco v Wrangler

That was a great video. I have a Jeep too so I am biased but it was all the tire and wheel selection. They shouldn't really do off road comparisons with vehicles unless they have the same tires, it's such a massive differentiator.

Another Crossover / cooling system job

Thank you for putting all of this in one place! I bought our current LR4 during the pandemic and it was shipped to the house. The dealer said this had been dealt with but provided no documents and I'm not inclined to believe him. Is there a way to tell by looking if this has been done?

Air and newspaper noise on cornering -> Air strut bad?

Hey, all, wife's 2013 LR4 makes an odd newspaper-rubbing-on-a-brake-disc/air-whooshing noise on hard right corners in the left front. First check was air suspension. Put it up and down and all around: no sign of a leak. I didn't spray it with soapy water, should I do that next? Second was...

    LR3 to LR4V8 to LR4SCV6 differences

I think you can read that sentence two ways, the way I think he meant it is that it was deleted on the LR4 and it is a shame. The LR4 V8 is way noisier than the 6, the supercharger on top probably muffles the insanely noisy injectors.

Emergency key (blade key) not unlocking LR4

We use these awesome little waterproof pouches that velcro to your arm or ankle while paddle boarding. There are a million on amazon.

New 2012 LR4 owner with a few questions

Hey, welcome and nice looking truck! We have had 2 of the V8 LR4s and took a lot of experience from the first one. It sounds like you hit the hot spots through some good research. For your questions: I think these injectors get really dirty and noisy on these so in our newer one I run seafoam...

    LR4 Mileage Poll

Well, if you can learn to drive in Boston or NYC with no driver assistance you are good to go for life anywhere in the world. Well, maybe not southeast Asia, but you would stand a better chance than most.

    Land rover hitch adaptor alternative

The OEM one is only a pain if you neglect it. Remove it twice a year and spray everything with brake or choke cleaner and then lube with WD40 including the keyhole and receiver hole in the chassis and it will never let you down.

    OEM hitch receiver, or aftermarket?

Another vote for the OEM one. It is very well designed and rock solid. The removability is key for my applications. Just make sure you clean and lube it every once in a while including the key hole with WD40 or similar as the whole system can get gummed up a little if you just leave it on there...
