LR4 Fuel Issues after alternator fail

    Possibly the fuel pump relay?

First post- going to look at a LR4 soon.

Aside from mechanical issues, are you familiar with the drive train options on this car? For the 2014-2016 models, you need the HD package to get low range gearing and locking rear differential. Some people care, others don’t. Seems many people are at least surprised by the missing low range...

First post- going to look at a LR4 soon.

I know people have said there are timing chain issues post 2014, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen evidence of it. I remember a lot of people referring to some post from a mechanic on Facebook saying there were a lot of timing chain issues on all the vehicles, but I haven’t seen any real...

    dreaded coolant level warning

The coolant low warning is based on the sensor in the overflow reservoir. Maybe the hill was steep enough that the coolant in the reservoir moved to the side and exposed the sensor. Can’t explain the smell - uphill or level shouldn’t make any difference to the rest of the system which should...

    A/C Help

Does the blower come on, just no ac? What about the little light that indicates ac? Stays off when you toggle ac on/off? If the blower works, I tend to agree that it sounds like the clutch relay or the solenoid clutch in the compressor itself (though could also be wiring). On the LR4, looks...

vibration at idle - motor mounts?

If you’ve got a manifold pressure problem, that’s probably the cause of the slightly rough idle. Could be basically anything that is affecting (increasing or decreasing) the flow of air into the manifold - throttle body, vacuum leak, pressure leak, obstruction (air filters). Some specific...

vibration at idle - motor mounts?

What are you idling at? Does it surge at all? Does toggling the ac on/off make any difference? Might check throttle body for dirt/gum - could try cleaning it with some carb cleaner, and see if it makes a difference. Clean air filters? If you have a GAP tool or the like, could check your fuel...

    2015 LR4 Head Gasket Replacement

$8k for that coolant work and control arms replacement seems outrageous to me. The coolant system work should have been like $3k-4k. What do control arms run $1500 or so? Shops do charge lot for head gaskets, but I’d do my own compression test first. This place might just be trying to rip...

    Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage

I’m not sure. Your o2 graphs are not what I’m used to seeing, but both sensors seem to be oscillating. That doesn’t necessarily mean one is not bad (they can get slow to respond throwing off your fuel trims). But it’s not likely both would go at once. I think bank 2 fuel trims look wonkier...

    Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage

hmmm…tough to read that graph of sensor 1. Try to compress the x axis timescale so we can see more time - like maybe 80-90 seconds or so at least. And expand the y axis so you can see the fluctuations better. You should be able to use your existing read and just pinch or expand with your...

    Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage

I think it might be listed as lambda. I’m attaching some old data I had once posted here in the forums. You can see the oscillation to look for in working sensors.

    Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage

Graph says sensor 2. For fuel control, need to be looking at sensor 1. warm engine, just idling (don’t throttle). For this sensor 2 data, was the engine just idling? I wouldn’t have expected so much variation. If I get a chance today, I’ll try to run the test on my car for comparison.

    Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage

The other thing I’ll mention - your fuel trims are off, but not way off. I’m not actually sure they’re off enough to cause any drivability issues. Still worth checking your o2 sensors, but I’m wondering if what you are feeling at 40 - 50 mph (1600-2000 rpm) is engine roughness (i.e., misfire)...

    Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage

Again - engine warmed up for this test.

    Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage

Been a while since I looked at this, so hopefully I explain correctly: There are 3 o2 sensors on each bank for this car: Pre-cat, mid-cat, and post-cat. The pre-cat sensor is used for fuel trim control, which should be sensor 1. See if you can find sensor voltage on the GAP tool for sensor...

    Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage

Forgot to mention that the car needs to be warmed up. When its cold, it runs on a set fuel schedule. when its warm, it goes into closed loop feedback. You are running a little rich on bank 2. I would next check your oxygen sensor voltages. you might have a bad o2 sensor.

    Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage

I’d check your mass air flow rates instead of voltage on the GAP tool and see what they look like - bank1 relative to bank2. I know they’re calculated from voltage, but I’ve had some strange things happen with the GAP tool - sometimes some functions don’t seem to work while others do. If the...

    All is lost?

On your question re thermostat, my understanding from past research is that the V6 engine seems to run a thermostat that opens at around 204-207 and is not fully open until 228, whereas I believe the older V8 models ran a thermostat that opened around 180F or 190F and was fully open around 203F...

    All is lost?

I’m wondering why the antifreeze was low by two quarts. I think the whole expansion tank is only about 2 qts, so the expansion tank must have been nearly empty. If you filled previously with a vacuum fill, shouldn’t have been any air left, so where did it go? Any signs of leaks? I guess...

    All is lost?

I think you first need to figure out if there is oil in the coolant. I’d also suck a little oil out or take a look into the oil filler cap to see if the oil looks normal,i.e, no blown headgasket. That aside, I guess the oil cooler seal could fail and get oil in your coolant and dump oil into...

    Disable Eco start/stop action permanently

Very interesting. I had heard there was a way some shops could turn it off - maybe this is it. Mine never worked (bought used), so maybe the prior owner did this mod. As a related matter, I believe the start/stop battery once it dies will drag down the main battery. I was getting a few...

Serpentine/Accessory belt failure on a very wet, dark MI road in the middle of nowhere...

Are you sure the new ECT is giving you the reading on the left? That appears to be the hot side coolant temp sensor (coming out of the block), which should be at the back of the engine on the rear crossover. The ECT at the front of the engine (which I think is the one you replaced) is...

    Maf Sensors...

FCPeuro lists Bosch as the original equipment, for whatever that’s worth. I haven’t had to replace mine, but I seem to recall that others on here have reported using Bosch as well.

Serpentine/Accessory belt failure on a very wet, dark MI road in the middle of nowhere...

I actually used to find the best prices at dealers by shopping around various dealer sites online. It’s been a while since I’ve needed anything, but I was astounded at some of the price differences I’d see. My dealer (Livermore CA) used to have great online prices, but then shut their online...
