Metal rolling around by CDL, what broke?

Parking/transmission/emergency brake has a problem. Something came loose. That, FWIW, is the big black drum behind the transfer case and in front of the rear driveshaft. Your wheels turning is normal.

Stuttering for 20 seconds after decelerating

Loose motor mounts? Bad (or going bad) U-joints in the driveshafts?

    Starting Issue

Could be any of those things. Could also be a leaky injector (essentially flooding the engine while it sits), a clogged fuel filter, a fuel pump, plug wires, plugs, ummmmm....lessee, some crazy electrical gremlin no one's ever heard of before.... I'd start with the fuel pump, and check...

    overheating 95 Disco

I've always been under the impression that coolant in the oil (milky oil) signified head gasket issues. I'm honestly not sure what causes gas in the oil except misfiring or running rich (leaving unburned fuel to leach into the oil), but neither of those should cause overheating. This might...

Discovery Series I XD Front End

Any more information? It could be CV's / halfshafts / diffs / carrier / 3rd member, or it could be steering/suspension. What is your dealer/repair guy telling you?

    Spider Gear replacement

Sure it's not a CV clicking away? If you check some other boards (search for Toy Diff Writeup on pirate4x4.com), you'll see that some people run away from the Rover diffs when given a chance. If it is a broken spider gear, this might be your chance. Good luck!

    Exhaust question

So last night I ran two cans of Seafoam through the engine, and I noticed that I had some smoking coming from the headers. It looked like it was leaking from a flange. I have a 96 D1 with about 111K miles, and it's pretty obviously the original exhaust, at least through that part. Is this a...

Did you pull all 3 ABS fuses? Or just the one inside the driver's kickpanel fusebox?

Who is Pissed about Fuel Prices?

PO'd. They are under $3/gal for the first time since the hurricane around here, but it stinks to think that $2.50/gal would be a nice thing...

    Limb Rise Question

I got this sent to me as a private message....can anyone help? I've heard of dog cable being used with a turnbuckle in the center of the rack, and I know you can spend a lot of money on them, but does anyone have a direct link to some ideas?

    Help Finding Part

You don't say what year Disco you have, but Tide Water Rovers has used parts -- or the other large parts suppliers (roversnorth.com, atlanticbritish.com, discountrovers.com) too.

The Seafoam Picture and Instruction Thread

I use Shell Rotella K, and have had no problems. There's a guy on another board who uses Rotella on all his trucks, including an old IH Scout, and he turned me onto it. Just make sure it's not the diesel-engine-only variety...

    105,000 mile service suggestions

Not sure how long you've had the truck, so some of these might've been done already, but here's my suggested starting points. Others might think of more  Change: Diff fluids Tranny fluid Radiator hoses Vehicle Speed Sensor Oxygen Sensors Fuel Filter Recore radiator

    Water Leak

    (1) No wonder I pay $100/hour for nonwarranty labor  (2) Glad to hear that the problem got fixed...What I don't understand is how the quality control can still be so bad on these trucks. That sounds no different than when Rover Group owned LR, pre-1996 when BMW took over. (3)...

Where is the jack and lug nut wrench?!

Go to a farm equipment supply store and buy a higher-rated jack for less than the cost of the oil to repair the old one.

    A/C not very cold

Out of refrigerant? Compressor broken? Unfortunately the A/C is one of those things that you need someone to diagnose. Fortunately, any auto repair place that works on A/C should be able to help you.

Water can get in through the breather tubes, if they're not extended. Time to drain and refill with diff oil.

    Best place for gearing?

I'm not 100% sure (I have a 4.0 D1, remember), but you should be fine unless you start loading that RRC down with junk. "Upgrade suspension" in my earlier post = taller bumpstops.

    UH OH!! Check Engine Light

1997 = OBDII = Go to Checker/AutoZone/Whatever and have them read the codes OR buy an OBDII reader. Plug it into the port on the driver's kick panel to the right of the steering wheel.

    Best place for gearing?

Welcome back Justin... 265/75's are ~32" -- no need to regear. Look at Rovertym, Rovertracks, or Great Basin Rovers if you still want gears... AFAIK, there shouldn't be a lot of rubbing with a Classic and that mild a lift. Might need to upgrade suspension and adjust steering bumpstops, though.

    Heavy-Duty Package

In any bad traction situation, a locking rear helps. Full-size spare is helpful in that, well, it's full size so there's no speed or mileage limitation.
