    exhaust (cat) questions

    (1) Do you live in an area where emissions testing is done? Do you ever plan on moving somewhere where it is a requirement? If the answer to either question is "yes" don't get rid of them. (2) Do you find your existing mileage to be too good? Removing the cats and O2 sensors will...

    Dealer annoyance!

That means (probably) they charged you for 10 minutes of work (1/10 of an hour at $99 per) Almost certainly :stupid:

    Used RR or Disco?

Geez, how tall are you? I'm 6'2" and fit just fine in a D1. If space up front is a problem, there are modifications you can do to the stock seats to permit more room. I say go for the Disco -- there's something cool about those alpine windows. :bandit:

Front windows dead - anybody knows CPR

So the window relay is trying to work. I'd check the same fuse again, and if not that you may have a burned out motor.

    99 disco 2 wont start +flashers activated

On your D1, it's on the passenger side of the engine compartment, mounted to the firewall. There is a rubber cover over a plastic button. If you push down on the top of the cover you may hear a click as it resets.

    99 disco 2 wont start +flashers activated

Yeah, that inertia switch is a bugger. Doesn't always seem to require any jarring impact to shut off the fuel flow, either. Glad you got it back on the road.

Front windows dead - anybody knows CPR

I assume you mean that the window won't move and the window motor doesn't run? Did the same fuse blow again?

    Disco Wheel Spacers

I apologize for my denseness. I assume by "rear of the alloys" you mean the side that faces toward the differential, and not toward the sunshine? I would think that (1) You could carefully grind away a small amount of alloy to recreate the clearance that was lost or (2) You could...

    Disco Wheel Spacers

I have heard of problems with the stock wheel backspacing when using spacers. You might need to buy some new rims. EDIT: Actually, it shouldn't matter. When you say it fouls the rear hubs, what do you mean? Are the wheels clean and neat, so that built up crud isn't messing up mounting?

    Sheepish Houm_WA

That must be a newer feature on these trucks. My D1 does not have a brake light switch anywhere but the brake pedal linkage, and IIRC D2s are the same way. Just what these over-electronic beasts need, is another switch that can go out in the middle of nowhere without a spare. Grrr.....

    Sheepish Houm_WA

How much time did they spend on proper parking technique? How many follow-up questions were there? I'm 99% sure that he means to use the parking brake at 30mph, and not just stomp down on the brakes.

Fuel pressure can be tested at the rail, to make sure it's not some strange fuel pump issue. Injectors can be removed and tested for leaks. I've not done it but recall reading that they can be tested by shops that work on semis. See if it's the starter first, though, then we'll help with...

Starter or maybe he/she has a leaking injector, which causes flooding and a misfire (from running rich). Should be easy enough to check the battery, and the starter is a quick fix also. Where is this person located?

SUV to get on 6-7k budget?

Cherokees like to grenade transmissions. My brother has been through two of them in 5 years (and that's NOT offroading one mile in that time, just highway miles). Plus, they are made by Chrysler, which ain't the most reliable US maker. Anyway, you take your chances with any vehicle of the...

    Dead Discovery

I had that happen once. Drove into ~18" of water at 35mph (was deeper than I anticipated ), and truck wouldn't do anything except turn over for 18 hours. Sitting in the sun seemed to help
