    Thinking of a Disco!

Look around here a bit and you'll see a lot of opinions. I have a 1996. I've owned it since 2001. It came to me with 54,000 miles and now has 114,000. In that time I have: Replaced all brakes Re-replaced front pads Replaced stock tires with AT tires Replaced AT tires with MT tires in a...

Do reliability issues=Stranded in the middle of no-where

Only a couple things have left me utterly stranded: - Inertia switch (fixed at Pep Boys with a paper clip that bypassed the switch) - Alternator (could happen to any truck with 100,000+ miles) Other things are either easily repairable by anyone with any mechanical knowledge, or still...

    Dead batteries

Strange. Sounds like a dealer with employees who leave the lights on.... Even with all the negative things I've read about Rovers, I've never heard of them being any worse (or better) than other makes re: battery usage. Andy

    1996 Disco1 SE7 ABS & Oxygen Sensor Questions

I've run into some Discos of that vintage (specifically, 1995 and 1998) where the ABS light turns on for the first hundred feet or so, which seems to be some sort of self-check. If the light turns off and the ABS works, it's fine.

    Gray colored Diff Fluid

Swivels can leak into the diffs, if the inner axle seal is shot. There are plenty of people who run "wet" axles, where the swivel grease and diff fluid are commingled, without problem. Drain it, refill, and be happy. Nothing is wrong with electrical stuff

Did it last spring. If it's clogged again, I've got some real sludge issues going on underneath there.

    Serious SSSSSttutter!!! Disco V8

Yeah, yeah, yeah....I already heard that from a friend. I'm just having a real hard time wrapping my mind around the "solution" found elsewhere, which was to replace the oil filter. I thought the light was for oil level, not pressure, on a D1.... Maybe it's time to make this its own...

    Serious SSSSSttutter!!! Disco V8

Except that I had rough idle and no "solution" from dropping into third, but the VSS cured both. Damned handmade trucks! Now if only I could cure the flickering oil light I am battling....

Vehicle Speed Sensor. Do a search here for more information -- it's a relatively cheap part and a 10-minute exchange. I'd bet Joey's dinner on it

    service engine soon?

P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected I can't find P1300 -- most of the 1300 series have to do with emissions, probably from the misfire. How old are the spark plugs and plug wires? Might try changing them...

    Radiator upgrading?

I am hoping that someone with a newer (say, 02-present) Discovery can help me. I'm trying to find out if the radiator from newer Discos is compatible with the older (94-99) models. Could someone answer these questions for me? Grommet? (1) Are the oil and tranny cooler lines part of the...

    one shot swivel houseing grease

There are those who run without inner seals, though. Axle and hub oil all mixed together in a conglomeration of slipperiness. YMMV, FYI, FWIW, etc.

    '87-ish V8 issues

Carb out of whack? Sounds almost like a choke-flood situation. It's been years since I've owned a carbed auto, but my motorcycles do that, where they bog down under load due to running overly rich.

    Changing O2 Sensors

VSS can not be adjusted. All four O2 sensors are the same -- you should email or call Nathan. He answers the phone a lot of the time, and responds to emails pretty quickly. If memory serves you need the most expensive ones for a D1.

    350 Conversion Possible?

Oh boy.... ...I'm not sure, but doing a search on www.discoweb.org or www.pirate4x4.com's Land Rover forum might get you somewhere. Joey's right -- this would be an expensive endeavor, unless you have a relatively new donor Chevy. Even then, the electronics would be a disaster, unless...

LR3 Stalling after driving over potholes

My inertia switch went out without causing the flashers to blink. I pulled into a restaurant and the damn thing wouldn't restart when I left. The switch chose that moment to die.

LR3 Stalling after driving over potholes

I don't know for sure, but that line about the diff locking sounds like bullshit. My guess it that something that doesn't like water got wet. Locking the diff shouldn't cause you to stall any more than my doing a cartwheel in my front yard causes the grass to grow slower. Something (inertia...

    Discovery 1 High Range/Low Range 4x4 Shifting

You can just shift into locked mode, whether you're in low or high. That permits you to more rapidly enhance traction while driving. I usually have to be rolling forward to go H to L, and most of the time from L to H too.

    Discovery 1 High Range/Low Range 4x4 Shifting

It is sort of an H pattern -- but you can shift from, say, high open to high locked without putting the transfercase in neutral first. You can lock the CDL on the fly.
