    NW Challenge Trip Report!!!

Gotcha. I replaced my bolts today. Both looked fine but seemed to be on the short side of torque specs. I chose to wire brush off the factory supplied Loctite (blue) since it was just a smear on one side only. I used the Loctite Gel and applied evenly to the first 4 or 5 threads. My torque...

They both seem to have some sort of EG coating and both are 10.9's. I'd assume the same material composition. But, now I can give the GF the old Burt Reynolds look and say "Have I got a shiny bolt for you!".

    NW Challenge Trip Report!!!

I just picked up my passenger side bolt and Lo and Behold, it's different. The OLD part number is RYG500073. The NEW part number is RYG501580. It's longer by the length of the un-threaded tip and lacks threading the entire length. Answers that argument. I'll try to install them tonight now...

    LR3 Spare Tire Winch Problems?

Over winching happens all the time. If they don't cough up for the repair, you may still be able to salvage the unit. I had to unbolt mine and blast the heck out of the inside with copious amounts of WD40. Mud and dirt packed the cable opening and it just made the unit a bear to operate. There...

    Sacramento Indy shop for alignment?

Just go to LR Rocklin. I broke down on my way back from Reno once and they treated me like a rock star - even with a modded vehicle. They're all offroad enthusiasts (at least in the shop) and will take good care of you.

I get where you're coming from. As explained to me, the lower grade will deform and deflect more than a higher grade in the same situation. It's more "malleable" per se. Since I removed my bolt, I'll replace it with new bolts - it was not recommended to re-use these bolts after the initial...

    NW Challenge Trip Report!!!

Here's the scoop - uprating this bolt may be actually cause more issues than it solves. In talking to my specialty guy, there is a 12.9 special ordered bolt available. He recommends staying away from the 12.9 for a good reason. Yes, the 12.9 does have a higher Tensile Strength rating than a...

    NW Challenge Trip Report!!!

Houm - the bolt threads into the spindle assembly, not the control arm. The arm is just a passive component of this assembly. It does have a steel bushing which mates up to the "washer" of the bolt to prevent over compressing during the torque procedure. When the bolt is pulled out, the arm is...

    NW Challenge Trip Report!!!

I started part 1 of the bolt replacement and hopeful uprating. I found it hard to believe that mine was torqued down to 129 lb/ft. I can see that mine were tightened or loosened a couple of times. I assume that was the result of an alignment. The bolt faces were slightly rounded due to a loose...

    Plus size tires and ABS

10-4. All programs act accordingly on normal road conditions. Good advice from the other poster on noticeable braking difference once you get to 32" tires. Physics. Increased rolling mass and inertia = increased braking distances. Nothing scary. Just remember you're slowing down 6k+ lbs.

    Plus size tires and ABS

I wouldn't call it a can of worms, but many of us have had the ABS kick in unexpectedly on slow, sharp, uphill/downhill roads. I just turn off the DSC when I hit these tight turns. You're already going very slow so the safety factor is secondary for me. Once the hairpins are over, I reactivate...

    Tire tread differences

I can't imagine a significant issue will arise. Just be sure to rotate in the spare and soon enough all tires will have the same tread depth. If you need replacement tires (30% depth) now's the time to pop for at least 2, preferably 4, then rotate in your new fullsize spare.

drop in gas mileage / click

Other than replacing air filters more often, there is really very little you can do as far as tune ups go. I have found that using Command Shift 100% of the time around town helps out a little bit. Driving style and tire pressure also contribute to average mileage. Use quality fuel - no AM PM...
