I'm not exactly sure - I only know what other forum members have reported where the vacuum pump can start to allow oil entering the intake, which isn't good. The external leak is just a nuisance. If your wife is just seeing normal condensation / smoke on cold starts in the morning, this may not...
If you want the leak stopped long term, replace the entire pump.
I tried to add sealant to the pump (including the plastic fitting, which was leaking like yours is) and this reduced the oil leak, but never stopped it completely. I installed a new OEM Pierburg pump in Sept-2021, and that cured...
Found it (link below). I thought it was a Summit Racing tool, but nope, it's an off-brand and I can't find the manufacturer's website. Almost appears to be an Amazon house brand?
Often there are repair kits available for the ratchet head, but you'd need to try and contact the manufacturer for...
Think I've posted this earlier in the 24-page thread, but this is the pump I use to fill the transmission - works on most vehicles without a dipstick, that require pumping to refill...
@bash535i - what year Mercedes GL did you have or test drive? The older ones (X164 chassis) were more comparable to the LR4 and were produced from about 2006-2012. The newer GL (X166 chassis) is a big leap forward in technology, gizmos, performance, etc. The X166 were produced from about...
I bought this set a few years ago and have been happy with it:

FCP has lifetime warranty on everything, including the ATF and filters. (!!) Think this was mentioned somewhere previously in this 23-page thread? Great vendor, I buy from them as well.

@callin , check out some other UOA's in the thread linked below. My latest is in post #46.

Forgot to post the analysis from spring 2022, see attached. Still using Red Line 5W-20. Numbers still look good. Next change will probably be at 140k (9kmi) later in 2023.
:driver:
If you are careful, 1 liter is enough. But, have 2 liters on hand just in case. I bought 2 but was able to complete the flush with only 1 liter.
I used the Motive catch bottle, and marked it in cc's/mL so I can tell how much I've flushed from each caliper. I forget if the FSM says how much to...
I used the Pentosin LV (Low Viscosity) you linked above, and had no issues. I believe the Ate SL.6 is equivalent. Either one should be fine. The Ate fluid is substantially cheaper. At the time I think I ordered Ate but the vendor (RM European) was out of stock, and sent Pentosin LV at no extra...
If a "rebuilt" engine is burning through a quart of oil per 1000 miles (or worse, as @Waterndirt reported)... something was done wrong in the "rebuild" process. My engine (with 135kmi now) has gone 7kmi between oil changes and burned less than 1 quart over the 7k. High oil consumption on a used...
Good point! I believe you are correct. Guess I need to read the owner's manual and see if that sheds any light.
Perhaps there is a mechanical linkage issue going on here also?
Got it. So this is not a mechanical key/tumbler issue.
My guess is, there is a microswitch attached to the lock tumbler which is supposed to send a lock/unlock signal to the electrical system... and the switch is not sending the "unlock" signal when the key is rotated. If so, the fix may be to...

Bummer about Merriam.

Apologies if this has already been posted. Neat stuff, shows what a truck can do with a pro driver at the wheel:

Make sure builders are not "reinforcing the block” by filling the cooling jacket with solid material, which is common for drag racing applications, but a bad idea for the street. If they won't explain what they are doing, run away.
I think this was asked before, but needs to be asked again... do the dealerships now have UPDATED part numbers with improved design, so the recall work only has to be performed once? Last year the answer was "no, same old defective parts".
:hmmmm:
Just curious... are the AJ133 V8 flaws that bad, they are worse than all the drawbacks (and cost!) of a complete engine/marque swap? Other than the timing chain issues which should be a 1-time repair expense, what is the incentive to lose the stock powerplant? (OK, ok, more power would be nice...
