    Identify this engine noise

I’m no expert, but I don’t think that timing chain is ever supposed to be slack. That sounds like a tensioner problem to me, as you already suspected. And I seem to recall reading about tensioner problems separate and apart from the more notorious problem of the guides wearing through. When...

Battery replacement - diagnostic procedures ?

I haven’t reprogrammed my battery control module after a battery change - no ill effects so far. And I know the last battery change was done without resetting the battery control module several years ago - it had the wrong battery specified in the settings. Again - no ill effects. I just...

    Rear hatch issue

If it does it when the keyfob is away from the vehicle, I’d suspect a short to power - maybe a bad switch right in that tailgate. Might check for codes.

Thanks for that clarification- makes sense now.

    Identify this engine noise

That’s interesting - thanks for reporting back. I can’t imagine why seafoam would have any effect on chain noise, but go figure. Good luck with it.

@Localschauss - ever get anymore info on what was/is causing the noise?

LR4 5.0 Chain Guides actual problem?

Certain its the chains? Aside from chains and valves, exhaust manifold leak can make a tapping noise. Suggested in this thread: https://www.landroverworld.org/threads/identify-this-engine-noise.43860/page-2#post-234873, although we didn’t get confirmation as to what was causing the noise there.

    The Great Engine Oil Debate

Question for any oil geeks: Any thoughts on the new ACEA C6 oils? I have little knowledge about what all these specs mean, but the new C6 spec is supposed to reduce risk of low speed pre-ingition in boosted engines. LR has apparently moved to a new spec for 2018 onward cars (STJLR.51.5122...

    TuffAnt ET27

Ended up with compos, 265/60’s. Obviously no rubbing with the slightly smaller tire, and tire fits underneath fully inflated. Accommodates stock TPMS.

Need some help/advice on my washer fluid pump...I think

Not sure - might try to detect a clogged (frozen) line (i.e., maybe pump drawing more power) and turn it off to prevent burning the pump out. I see a code in the manual (B1051-23) relating to the washer switch (signal stuck-low, whatever that means). Maybe there are others as well.

Need some help/advice on my washer fluid pump...I think

I think the situation would be a DTC starting with a “B”. Some of the codes are protective - they seem to shut the circuit off until they are cleared. We’ve seen reports of that for the tailgate actuator in some instances, and from jlach993’s post above it seems like it might be the same deal...

Need some help/advice on my washer fluid pump...I think

Might be able clear the code with a cheap generic reader. And she can just pair your iid with her phone I think. The iid can pair with other phones, just not other vehicles.

    engine stalling

Seems like quite a coincidence that the hp fuel pump dies right after they are working on the valve cover, but maybe that’s it. Valve cover removal requires removal of the fuel rails and injectors. Wonder if an injector got damaged or is maybe leaking (they’re supposed to replace the seals...

Really Stupid Question - Time required to reach operating temperature (V6)?

Warms up in about 5 minutes in CA. I guess it would take a little longer at those temps, but doesn’t seem like it would take more than 10 min. Could be thermostat. Could also be that rear temp sensor (which I assume gives you the engine temp for the dash gauge). That temp sensor might also...

    P0128 code - thermostat?

I just checked an old log, and had 95F/219F at the two sensors, so 124 degree spread. Your spread (158F/194F) is only about 36 degrees. I’ll try to check it again later today with the engine hot and see what I find. However, I have the V6, and they do run at different temperatures compared to...

    P0128 code - thermostat?

Seems like that new temp sensor might be off. As I recall the temp sensor on the heater manifold at the back of the engine is the hot side sensor, and is where your temp gauge reads. Temp sensor below the t-stat is the cold side. It’s been a while since I checked my own temps, but I recall a...

Stripped bolt hole for 5.0L water pump

Certainly looks like a leak from the pump itself to me. The gaskets on the intake/outlet look like they’re degrading, at least from the pic. If so, I’ll bet the same thing is happening to the gasket between the two halves of the pump. I’d send those picks to Lucky8 and ask for your money back.

    Identify this engine noise

I haven’t accessed it yet myself, but asked another member about it and it’s not easy to get to. You can see the reponse I got here (check post #11): https://www.landroverworld.org/threads/maf-sensor-and-o2-sensor-bad.42734/page-2#post-225187. Maybe just start with removing the wheel well...

    Identify this engine noise

@Localschauss: That last video you posted still reminds me of a manifold leak. We’ve had some reports of the bolts shearing off on the v6’s - not sure about the v8’s. Look up some videos for manifold leak ticking noises and see what you think. Here’s one, but it’s from a Ford F-150, so maybe...

    Identify this engine noise

If it were the timing chain, I think it would definitely be louder with a stethoscope on the timing chain cover. OP said he could not hear it with the imitation stethoscope. That really seems to suggest it is something else. I definitely hear a ticking in the OP’s video, and if you put a...

Back in Action! Seized Engine Replaced

You could go in through the oil filler hole with a right angle pick or the like and just see if the chain is tight. Should be real tight- I’ve seen it described as tight like a guitar string if that helps. Pretty unscientific method - but if it’s loose, you for sure have a problem. If it’s...

    LR4 Binding Brakes

Never heard of electronically resetting the brakes. When you do the rear brakes, you need to put the e-brake in a "service position." And, if replacing rear rotors or the e-brake pads, you're supposed to follow a bedding-in procedure. But both of these things can be accomplished at home -...

    Another Coolant pass over issue

Here’s a more complete how-to thread:https://www.landroverworld.org/threads/how-to-supercharger-removal-rear-crossover-and-passenger-valve-cover.42135/ To answer your question, yes supercharger needs to come off. I’ve heard some reports of just lifting the front, but that doesn’t really save...
