    Also wanted to note that at 67.7k miles, there was almost no visible clutch particles or debris in the pan. I have 0 confidence that the PO changed the fluid prior, so that was a good sign to me.

    If it were me, I would believe it to be coolant and most likely from the rear crossover pipe. That's a long way to travel for power steering fluid without seeing it dripping from anywhere else.

    ZF 8 fluid is very oily and thin....it's also greenish. When used it's closer to black/green, but nowhere close to red

    @txfromwi great write-up! I was actually going to post something similar as I just did this today. Next question, GAP IID says that transmission adaptive values should be cleared if the fluid is changed; thoughts on if this should be mandatory, suggested, or user discretion?

    @Michael Gain perfect, thanks! I've scoped it out the last couple of times I was underneath in preparation and it seemed pretty straightforward. I'll also keep in mind that the pan doesn't fully drain.

    @Michael Gain anything special need to be done when dropping the pan? You have (had) the 8hp70 right? I've got the new pan, fluid, and a small ratchet with T40 bit; just haven't found any info on special technique to getting the pan down.

    I noticed mine had the same barb that wasn't being used when I had everything off the other day. The other part of the "Y" connects under the throttle body.
