:dito:I too have been very impressed by the snow setting. I've got Cooper Zeon LTZ's, which are snow rated, and have been in some pretty deep snow without chains with no problems. I even tried to get it to slide in a nice wide downhill area, but couldn't. :driver:
Cool maneuver. Any videos of a land rover on that trip? I have a feeling that with HDC and the right Terrain Response setting, there would be less sliding and wheel spin.
Who is this? I don't remember a silver LR3 with an expedition rack on the GD2 trip last year. But it's got the stickers from the trip on the side??
I've seen a number of LR3's with the more aggressive Cooper Discoverer STT's in 275/65/18, which is 32.07" in total diameter, though they get some rubbing on the rear wheels under full compression. A good rule of thumb is to keep it under 31.5" total diameter to avoid rubbing.
Cooper...
Note to self - don't stop when going up "The Rock".
Anybody know what kind of tires those are? Seemed like 18" wheels or even possibly 17" with MTR's of some kind. Nice.
Umberto makes a good point about opening the rear lift-gate. That's what they always do at Discount Tires when they are working on mine. It disengages the suspension system. You don't want all four wheels hanging. It could blow an airbag supposedly. Having the door open completely releases it...
That's what I was thinking too. Except this one has a usable floor all the way to the front, and mounts to the rail extentions, like the Expedition Rack does, to give it more strength. I'd get it if I wanted a full length rack.
Please post the pics. I'd love to see them. Haven't heard of that one.
I ended up getting the Brownchurch rack for mine. I only needed race space over the rails and I wasn't planning of roof lighs. I also needed a low profile due to garage constraints. Here's how it turned out (after the wind...
Sounds like you need a better compressor! Yes, I'd say the spare is kept at around 15-20 when stowed. If I'm off road, I'd only need to add 10-15 pounds though. Going from the ~28 or so I normally run off road back up to 38-42 for on road usually only takes a few minutes per tire. I've...
You did say LR3 right? Your icon is a Disco. 32" tires would fit an older Disco, but I still can't believe they don't rub on an LR3. Let's go rock crawling somewhere and check it out.
A 275/65/18 has an overall diameter of 32.07 inches. Sorry, but that will definitely rub even in off road mode - especially when fully compressed, such as in Rock Crawl mode.
I have 285/60/18's, which have an overall diameter of 31.46 inches, and they barely rub under full compression, just...
That's what I have on mine and I have one as a spare underneath. Slightly deflated to make it fit though. But I have an air compressor on board, so if I need to fill it up on the road, it's no problem. Here's a pic. It sticks out a little. As you can see from this angle, you don't need to trim...
That's actually better if you're off road a lot. As you may have noticed, the picture I posted is of a broken one. The metal stems don't take rocks well.
I have and like the Mantec one a little better since it is wider and protects more. But the transfer case and gas tank plates are a good idea. Don't think Mantec makes those. Mantec is the maker of the "official" Land Rover plates. They make two kinds - with and without a winch.
The RRS is basically an LR3 underneath (although a shorter wheelbase). Most of the things that apply to an LR3 would be the same on the RRS. I've owned both.
Very easy. I've removed them to install the rear lamp guards. Two phillips screws on the inside. As mentioned, you just lower the tailgate to get at them. Then just get a good grip and pull straight away. There are two "plugs" that just pop in and out behind the lights. Doesn't take much...
We have 4 kids and put the two little ones in car seats in one side and the center, leaving the other side available for flipping forward to make it easier for the bigger kids to get in and out of the rear seats. Works great. Those rear seats are far more roomy and comfortable than any other 3rd...
