    Yet Another Stupid Tire Thread

The Contis are really bad in the snow. According to reviewers, the others are a bit better (but this may not be accurate, who knows). Also, the Contis are substantially more expensive. According to tirerack.com: 4 Contis = $1192 4 Pirelliis = $1000 4 Bridgestones = $752 Of course, if I...

    Leaving LR... For now

I thought I had a rattle the other day -- but it turned out to be a pair of ski poles in the back! No rattles or squeaks here (knock on wood).

    Yet Another Stupid Tire Thread

Hi - I've read all of the tire threads on the board and looked at most of the tire sites, but I'm still confused about tires. I've got a 2011 LR4 HSE with HD package and 19" stock rims. My OEM Contis are almost bald (my wife has been driving the truck and I wasn't checking recently). I had to...

Most fun I've had driving int he snow in a while

If it were up to me, I'd have a manual transmission. Next best thing is paddle shifting. It's anything but sporty. Trust me, I'm not kidding myself into thinking I'm driving the Porsche PDK double clutch system. However, when you drive a 6,000 pound vehicle, you're crazy if you don't use...

Most fun I've had driving int he snow in a while

I've used the new shift knob on my dealer's loaner Jags for the past couple of years. I don't mind it at all. In fact, I think it's better. First of all, the paddles are superior to the stick for "manual" shifting. Second, if you go the manual Command Shift mode with the LR stick, you can't...

Kuat NV Bike Rack (hitch mount) on LR4

It's super-heavy. There aren't a lot of great storage options. If you have wall space, you can use a wall-mounted trailer hitch mount thingy, like this one: I just keep mine on the floor standing upright, near the wall, but my garage is a bit cluttered

Update for the Owners of this Beautiful Truck!

We had the exact same thing happen to us about 2 months ago (18k miles). I don't think I posted about it. In ours, they actually had to replace some electrical wiring, too, so it's not completely water proof. This problem is not unique to Land Rover, as I had it happen to an old Saab once...

    Premium VS Regular Gas

I believe Dave is right. Shouldn't gunk up your valves at all. The knock sensor should compensate and you COULD experience a slight loss in power.

    Pleasantly surprised by gas mileage

Just got back from an 800 mile trip on the California coast - combination of 65-mph freeway and 55-mph or less windy Pacific Coast Hwy. 6 people, a dog and 2 cargo boxes on the roof. Averaged about 17 mpg.

    Another roof rack question

As far as mounting a luggage rack AND a cargo box, I think there are 2 possible ways to do it, but neither is great. 1. You could get some long-ass cross bars and mount a luggage rack from Thule or Yakima, e.g. next to a cargo box (probably not a huge box). I have 66" Yakima cross bars...

Kuat NV Bike Rack (hitch mount) on LR4

I got one last year with the 2-bike extension. I love it too. If you do a search on this forum, you'll find me talking about it in several posts, I think. Just be careful not to over-tighten the hand-screw expansion bolt in the hitch receiver, or you'll shear the bolt in half (like I did last...

    Yakima or Thule Box

The scary part is that it's not unique at all. If you google it, you'll find a few people talking about the same thing happening. When I called Yakima, they weren't surprised. It's not a common occurrence, but it's happened enough times that they are quite familiar with the problem...

    2013-MY Rumors/Facts

Exactly. Could you imagine a Defender or a M-B G-Wagen with a sloped rear? Not utilitarian enough.

    Yakima or Thule Box

The SkyBox 18 and SkyBox 21 fit perfectly on the LR4 and don't interfere with the hatch. For hitch-mounted bike carriers, there is a good thread on here from last year. Do a search. I recommended the Kuat NV.

    ebony interior

Don - I hope you have black dogs! We got the almond interior because we have a yellow lab and a brown mutt. I once had a Saab with a black interior, and a white dog. Not a good combination.

    Yakima or Thule Box

My SkyBox had the same "foolproof" latches where you can't take the key out until all of the clasps engaged. That wasn't the problem. The problem was that the design of the clasps was not robust enough to withstand high air pressure inside the box that occurs at highway speeds if there is an...

    Yakima or Thule Box

Find my post in another thread about my roof boxes. I won't repeat the whole thing, but I have an old Packasport fiberglass box which is heavy and sturdy, but not that big. We bought a slightly used Yakima SkyBox Pro 21 last year which exploded driving home from skiing this winter. However...

    Side protection moldings!!!!

does this really protect against most door dings? seems like it depends too much on the height and shape of the door of the car next to you. would be nice if they required all manufacturers to put rubber strips on the door edges so you can't ding up other people's car. After all, this is...

    Experience installing short roof rails

I've got black short rails on my Santorini Black truck. Truth is, you can't really see them very well from the ground anyway, so it won't make a big difference. The black matches the black window trim and antenna, but I'm sure either is fine.

    Hood Wind Deflector Install

I've yet to see a wind deflector on any truck that looks even close to acceptable aesthetically. Personal taste, I guess.

    Roof rack options thread

Spoke to Yakima customer service today. Learned a couple of interesting things: 1. apparently the latch system on the box has been re-designed and beefed up, which could help with the integrity of the box. I guess my box is older than I thought. Looked brand new, but was at least 3 years...

    Roof rack options thread

Well, so much for the Yakima SkyBox. My wife was driving back from the Sierras this weekend in a heavy wind storm and the top of the Yakima box exploded in half and flew off the car. Lucky it didn't cause a serious accident. She insists it was closed properly, and I believe her. The only...

    Wipers

Yeah, I've got the Bosch Icons on my other car, and will put them on the LR4 when the time comes. Just go to your local auto parts store.

    Cargo Area Concerns

We use the Mountainsmith Modular Hauler system. It's really nice, and you can get specialized "cubes" (bags), for specific purposes (e.g., cooler bags, dog food bags with built-in bowls, ski boot bags with drains, etc). For some reason, I can't get the linked pics to post, but here's a link...
