    Winter Tires

Blizzaks of various types for various vehicles have been my consistent favorite snow tires. My last set on my SLK I cheaped out and got Dunlop Graspics, not bad in the snow or in the dry. Way better than any all-season tire I've ever had. I think as long as you stay away from any...

Using Terrain Response to Improve Gas Mileage

That run had a net change from 7500' down to 5300', with lots of up and down in between, including La Veta Pass. Today I did 21.8 over 136 miles, reversing part of the same route. Of course I'm at the low point now, from 5300' to 4700' or something. Lots of traffic on this run though...

MY ANSWER: Buying A Used LR3 (V6 or V8?, Which Options?, Cautions?)

That's a great write-up. I didn't know about the bushings and knocking when I bought my used '05, but one I drove had it and one didn't, so you know which one I picked. Glad to know I dodged a bullet. This thread is worth a sticky, IMHO.

Using Terrain Response to Improve Gas Mileage

I tried an admittedly unscientific test of this theory for the past several days and found virtually no difference in mileage. In my daily commute, in a mix of sport and regular mode, I get anywhere from 13 to 15 mpg. My commute is about 20-miles roundtrip of 20-40 mph surface streets, lots of...

    2005 vs 2006 LR3

See if the 2006 models you're looking at are V6's. The V6 trim line was new for '06 and tends to be cheaper. Also, since it's lower power, I think reviews weren't as kind. There were certainly V8's in 2006 too, try to compare 2005 V8's to 2006 V8's. Also make sure you're comparing SE's to SE's...

First Trail Ride - Boreas Pass

Nice ride and pics. If you're looking for the next step up but still pretty easy, try Georgia Pass. Despite what all the guidebooks say, go Breck to 285 - I prefer to do the steep stuff going uphill.

    National Rally

Well unfortunately I can't get the time off work after all. Hopefully next year.

Pics from Swan River and Georgia Pass

Yesterday a friend and I took our respective Rubi and LR3 up to the Swan River and Georgia Pass trails near Breckinridge, CO. No major drama or excitement, just a nice day out on the trails. Georgia is pretty easy, Swan is a bit tougher. The main challenges on Swan are steepness with loose rock...

    Never Coming Back Again

I had a friend like that once. Gave me some milk to drink, and told me it had gone bad. Gave me some Immodium to go with it even. And I drank it. And I got sick. That bastard! I never talked to him again.

    Never Coming Back Again

Go drive your ford over this and let me know how it goes: and that's fairly easy.

    National Rally

Well I got in at the Silver Sage. Most of the other places I'd consider, cheap or expensive, were full at least on the weekend. A friend of mine has stayed in the Silver Sage, says it's decent, so hopefully that will work out.

    National Rally

Crap, I completely forgot to make reservations. I still haven't gotten my membership from Solihull yet either, it's been weeks, so I need to track that down too.

Hi New Lr3 Owner Needs Little Help

This is the adapter that gives you a hitch receiver: http://roverconnection.com/LR3/Land_Range_Rover_Sport_LR3_Tow_Hitch_Receiver_KBN500023.html It's a standard Class III size receiver. There's nothing special about the receiver size, once you get it you can use any standard Class III...

Two weird faults - perhaps unrelated

Not sure. So far each time he's given me a range/guesstimate, he doesn't know for sure until he knows exactly what materials and fab time will be. I'll post a new thread when I get them and he's got them priced on his web site.

Two weird faults - perhaps unrelated

Too late, it's already down there. That occurred to me today - I'm going to go in complaining of a transmission fault, possibly related to overheating, and they're going to say "suuuuurre...those weren't on there when it happened". Though, Flatirons is pretty cool about this stuff - they're...

Two weird faults - perhaps unrelated

I'm the (or a) "prototype" LR3 of sorts for Hi-Country Offroad, here in the Denver area. I think he's going to do a gas tank skid, compressor skid, and transfer case skid this time. He did the sliders I have - this is my LR3 in these pics...

Two weird faults - perhaps unrelated

Last night I saw the threads about "transmission fault, limited traction" on startup, which seemed to be a weak battery issue. I had been assuming that since I had been running for hours yesterday, the battery should have been fully charged. But, if the battery is going, and I'm just creeping...

Two weird faults - perhaps unrelated

Ok, second fault. This has happened three times, all offroad. Typical scenario is I have been offroading in low range, rock crawl mode, offroad height, HDC on sometimes, off sometimes. Proceed like this for several hours without problems. Then I stop, sometimes more than once. Each time I verify...

Two weird faults - perhaps unrelated

I've recently experienced two faults with my '05 SE, one for the first time today and the other for the third time today. They may be unrelated, but I'll put them both here in case they are related. First up is a transmission fault - this happened for the first time today, and has only...

    National Rally

Anyone here going to/been to the National Rally in Moab? I just got the time off approved today, so it looks like I'll be going. Any preferred lodging? I generally stay at the Bowen cuz it's cheeep.

    Musings...

In a SUV, last fall in my Cherokee, twice in November. First time was alone between jobs, so I didn't do anything tough. Second time was with a friend in a Rubi over Thanksgiving, when it snowed so we didn't really do much tough then either. When the snow started to melt, that red dust gets...

    Musings...

I used to have the beater Jeep, a '97 Cherokee. I wouldn't call it a dedicated trail machine, as it was in nice shape, not massively built up but had 31's on it. It was also intended as my winter daily driver (with dedicated snows for winter), though that didn't always work out. I also have...

    Incessant Brake wear warning chime

Unfortunately, on the best stuff my butt is completely puckered to the seat, so I don't have too many pics. Here's a few: http://grendel.smugmug.com/gallery/5415276_6XChy#331134448_sHmye (this ride did all the pinstriping) http://grendel.smugmug.com/gallery/5345865_HAP5z#326879654_K22Se on...

    Incessant Brake wear warning chime

Well this had a happy & cheap resolution. I bought my LR3 as a CPO 3,500 miles ago, and as part of the certification they put on all new brakes (CPO requires at least 60% brake life left). They put on the wrong wear sensors when they did it. They replaced the sensors and I'm all set. Total...
