    Which Yellow Optima Battery...

How did you measure the current? Amp clamp on the cable, anything above 58 amps is lost as heat. Charging requires two components, voltage and amperage. Amperage without the voltage is irrelevant. Prove me wrong, once and for all, measure the key off open circuit voltage of you Optima...

    Which Yellow Optima Battery...

First, no where did I say any loss was permanent. However there is a degree of sulfation on the plate surface (which is by definition a discharged battery) unless the battery has been allowed to rest in that state for an extended period of time is reversible with the proper charging technology...

    18" wheel Tires

I live in Aurora, roughly Iliff and Peoria. I go to East, overall a good experience though I was a bit surprised that when I bought it they hadn't PM'd it and almost immediately had a suspension fault and a tranny failure. Seemed odd. Tough break on the side wall, did you bang up the wheel...

    Which Yellow Optima Battery...

My kind sir, the applications I sited have ZERO relation to Stand by power. They are all 100% automotive and passenger vehicle.

    Which Yellow Optima Battery...

As I commented previously, inhale zero interest in debating one opinion versus another. Forums such as these should be used as resources and collective experience. I suppose the fact that I am an a electrochemical/mechanical engineer with more than 25 experience specifically in the battery...

    18" wheel Tires

Where are you in CO? Who did your alignment (more accurately, which dealer)? I like my Nittos, have held up well thus far.

    Which Yellow Optima Battery...

drivesafe, I have always found it amazing that the developers of charging, isolating, and testing equipment for lead acid batteries rarely, if ever, consult a battery manufacturer to gain information on what happens to a lead acid battery in varying conditions, electrochemically. My guess is...

    Which Yellow Optima Battery...

Wives tale? I wish that were true but my 27 years as an design and application engineer in the battery industry proves differently. Parallel strings are much more sensitive to varying voltages than series strings. True you can mix the batteries but my experience (10 years @ shoe and event...

    Which Yellow Optima Battery...

I am the former tech sales manager for Optima. Worked from them for 12 years. In a perfect world you want to "match" batteries in a parallel string (12V). The reason is that in a parallel string, the batteries will constantly fight to reach the same "state" in this case, the weaker of the...

    First Suspension Failure

My '05 SE had the same problem. Ultimately it dropped to the bump stops. The dealer installed a new compressor and haven't had it show up since, it's been about 6 months. If I recall the cost was something south of $500 but I have an extended warranty so my cost was zero.

    18" wheel Tires

Just bought a set of Grapplers. Nice looking tire, looks good on the OE wheel and fills the wheel well the way god intended. Have had a few people compliment the look. We had a late season snow in the mountains last weekend and I was surprised how much understeer I got while going up the...

    after market warranty

I bought my 05 LR3 SE V8 with 23,000 miles on it . . . was originally looking for a CPO LR3 but the CPO warranty is limited (time and mileage). They sold me an aftermarket warranty for $2800 through the dealership (Land Rover, Denver East), no deductible provided I take it back to them for any...

    Well Friends... It's Been Real

Nothing practical about a Land Rover? Really?

    2005

Houm . . .. you're right, you would think that they would update the software during the inspection before they put it on the lot . .. . my '05 had exactly the same problem. It ended up being a bad tranny ECU module . . . .fixed under the extended warranty I bought with it. I think my LR did...

    2005

My 05 had exactly the same issues (bought mine with 23K miles). The fix is a new Tranny ECU module. LR Denver East fixed it under my extended warranty policy but I think all told it would have cost me around $400 (parts and labor).

HDC Fault, NAV Memory and Battery Lifespan

I have a lot of experience with the MidTronics testers . . . . they are NOT a load tester. They measure "starting current" to determine if the battery is good or bad. While in general terms you can cull out good and bad via this method . .. it is GREATLY dependent upon the condition of the...

HDC Fault, NAV Memory and Battery Lifespan

I had a transmission fault and it ended up being the ECU module in the transmission . . problem has not reoccurred. Seems the electronics are pretty sensivitive to voltage. I bought my '05 with the battery already replaced.

What's the worst that can happen?

Blackforestham . . . . this is the kind of information that helps guys like me make my decisions. I'm an enthusiast, I wheel, and I have zero intentions on keeping my LR stock. I am however still learning about the quirks of this fine vehicle. My Jeep is easy, I can see everything that I can...

    The Snorkel

As I understand it, the raised intake helps reduce the amount of dust and crap ingested on trail, at speed, particularly when you're following someone. The guys from ARB say that there is a greater "concentration of dust" between ground and roughly 4' (somewhat depends on how fast you're going...

What's the worst that can happen?

Originally I was planning to use my '05 as tow vehicle. Take it to events, wrap it to promote the brands I was working for, etc. I liked the idea of the rod mod, more room, bigger rubber . . . . like it or not in the automotive aftermarket bigger is better. Make it unique or at least...

What's the worst that can happen?

Ouch, highway speed and carnage . . . . I'd rather not experience that as well. I've noticed that few people run aftermarket wheels. I know it's personal preference but I've noodled on the idea of putting Redbournes on my '05, they have a slightly different offset and backspace, they push...

What's the worst that can happen?

The tire subject has been beaten to death, twice. But I have a question that perhaps will persuade me one way or the other . . . . Using the rod mod, plus size tires to fit .. .. .the suspension system fails and drops to the bump stops . . .. can you still drive or is the plus size tire...

    Rear Fog Light switch/light?

Glad to see I wasn't the only one . . . .I read it in the manual (which I had to download because the OE is MIA) but couldn't figure it out because my bulbs don't light up. Did you just use a wire splice to tap off the circuit?

    Battery Issues

Coming from a 20+ year veteran of the battery industry (15+ years as a design engineer) . . . .distilled water is the technically preferred variant. The reason is to limit or reduce any potential contamination from public water (nitrates, chlorine, etc.). My guess is that you had to pry the...
