2012 LR4 Reluctant to lower from off-road suspension mode

If you are DIYing projects on your Land Rover, the iiD tool is a must. Expensive, yes. But it will potentially save you so much time and money down the road that it more than pays for itself. Atlantic British has their own tool, but the price isn't that much less than the iiD tool. Lucky8...

2012 LR4 Reluctant to lower from off-road suspension mode

I think I remember reading about the suspension sometimes getting out of whack after suspension work and needing to be reset. If you had an iiD tool, I'd recommend putting the suspension into service mode and just draining all the air out, then putting it back into regular mode and letting it...

    LR4 market question

I had a 95 Land Cruiser from about 1999 to early 2008. Traded it in with 140k miles on it for $3,500. Chump change. I was going back to school and needed the money for something different. That was around what it was worth at the time. I see what they go for now and kick myself. Of course...

Coolant leak from small hose on Waterpump

Water pumps seem like a ~65k maintenance item on the 5.0, so depending on how old yours is you may as well replace it regardless.

    Guidance for dual battery install

This. Just searching for "traxide" will give you a lot of good threads. OP, keep in mind that a dual battery install on a 2014-16 LR4 is way more involved than it would be on your 2011. Michael Gain did the hero's work on a dual battery install on his, but thankfully a lot of his headaches...

    Intro! Firenze in HD

Looking good, Billy Ray! Is that ARB for the 2014+ models? How much was shipping on those APT skid plates from Australia?

    Tie Rods - LR010667 vs. LR010668

Lol. The one that was already on it. Neither were bad, I was just being hyperactive on preventative stuff that probably didn't need to be done. My mechanic told me it was the wrong one and put the original back on, and I returned the part to Atlantic British. It's been on my "need to do"...

    Tie Rods - LR010667 vs. LR010668

Yeah, I had an issue before. Atlantic British acted like they didn't know what the deal was. I returned it.

2012 LR4 Radio Problems. Changing Sources

Easiest solution (garnered from my stereo rebuilding days) is to spray some DeOxit in the switches to clean them out.

    Poor man’s CarPlay installed

Time for "just got out of a dumb meeting and am partially braindead thoughts." Part of me wonders if we aren't thinking of this the wrong way and instead of using an external thing for carplay, we install just install an aftermarket stereo and then use an external thing for the OE Land Rover...

2012 LR4 Radio Problems. Changing Sources

There's a button in the steering wheel that will change sources. Are you accidentally hitting that button while driving, or has some contaminant gotten into that button?

difference between front and rear valve blocks?

I "rebuilt" my valve blocks, which really just involved me taking them apart and cleaning out some desiccant that had blown down the air tubes from the compressor dryer. Could be some of that desiccant has interfered with some of the valves inside the block, keeping them from closing all the...

2011 LR4 shimmy/vibration -- control arms? warped or glazed rotors?

Did it fix your vibration issue? I'm guessing it did since you said the bushings were clearly worn out.

    Tuffants with Schrader TPMS

What year is your LR4? Discount Tire had a hell of a time finding a TPMS that would work back when I had my OE 19" wheels and picked up an extra for a full sized spare. They eventually had to just get one from the Land Rover dealership. It would be nice finding another one that works.

205,000 miles and about to service transmission question.

What's high mileage in this case? And is this a fluid drain and refill, or some sort of fluid "flush?"

Crossover Pipe Replacement Dispute with Warranty Company

I suppose it's debatable whether the crossover pipe is a wear item. Obviously, the OE Land Rover warranty doesn't think it is. It's not really a "hose," obviously. I'd ask the warranty company to send you the documents/materials they are using to support their denial of your claim, along...

Rivian SUV thoughts? Looks like an LR4

I love electric vehicles for many reasons, but I'd caution anyone who likes to do backcountry travel to read up on how much range they have off road. I believe even the long-range R1T was only getting around 80 miles in back-country travel.

2011 LR4 shimmy/vibration -- control arms? warped or glazed rotors?

It absolutely can be the LCA. Exact symptom I and others had when the LCA bushings started going bad. Replaced the LCA (and nothing else) and problem went away.

    LR4 TPMS Pressure Sensors

What year is your LR4? There was a change in the TPMS frequency somewhere along the run. I think if yours is a 2012.5 or older, the Defender TPMS will not work. I may be wrong on the year. Could be 2013 or 14. There's not really any DIY solution. It either works or it doesn't, based on the...

2011 LR4 shimmy/vibration -- control arms? warped or glazed rotors?

Shimmy while braking was my first lower control arm symptom as well. For the new front struts, look at the UK-based Land Rover parts places. LrDirect and the like. Just buy the OEM ones. The exchange rate right now is one of the best it's ever been for us U.S. folk.

Why is it worse on the 2013?

Huge thanks to this forum. Land Rover has as new home.

Black is a pretty color when clean, but I'll never own a black vehicle again because it only looks clean for a day and then it looks full on dirty. If "forever" ownership is in the cards for me, I'm considering having mine wrapped in a different color.

    Failing alternator?

If it helps calm your nerves, the alternator on these are Denso units, which is the same one that Toyota runs. They regularly go 200k plus miles. The main issue with the LR4 is the location of the alternator. It can get mud in it or even oil from the engine. Barring that, it should last a...
