Engine Breaking noise at 60mph on highway?

I can imagine! I've had two different vehicles have their engines turn a main bearing and lock-up. But at least I could take it out of gear and still roll. If your problem is electrical, I don't envy you. Good luck! BJ

Engine Breaking noise at 60mph on highway?

That sounds like moisture in the brake fluid, gets hot, expands, turns to steam putting more pressure in the system and stops you. Recommended brake fluid change interval is usually two years. Check your local auto parts stores for a dip stick that can tell if you need to flush your brake...

    terrible squeeking and creaking

I've read about the front sway-bar making that kinda of sound when the bushing at the frame mount went bad or got soft. Also saw a spacer that would correct the problem too. But I've not heard of any reason for a rear noise as you describe. Check your spare is all the way up? BJ

    Problems With the LR3

Damn, my CD player just quit working. I had unloaded three CDs and inserted my CD lens cleaner disk into CD1. It ran it's program and when it finished, I hit the eject button, it jumped to CD3 and reports CD ERROR on the LCD and has stopped responding. Glad I still has some warranty left. BJ

    blue smoke

I'd like to know what they say. I see the same thing in my '03 Tundra, but it only happens about one in three start-ups. I don't see much oil loss between my 5K OCIs and I run Royal Purple in it, so I'm not real worried with it. Nothing on my LR3 but it just barely has over 26K miles on...

    Brush guard/aux light setups.

To install the brush bar I used a 1.25" hole saw, measured down, and cut the hole. Must have been lucky, as it was right on. I used the OEM light mount brackets on the brush bar and mounts from the bottom of OEM foglights to mount these Bosch fog lights. They came with the covers, but I...

    blue smoke

Blue smoke is usually oil. You have a little oil getting past either your valve guides or rings when cold. As long as it only happens when you start-up, you should be OK. It's when it's all the time or on idling that it becomes bad. BJ PS I'd keep an eye on your oil level to see if you...

    terrible squeeking and creaking

Mine has been squeaking ever since my Dec 13 trip that was through some extreme mud. My right front, when I turn at slow speeds, creaks worse than my old bones. I haven't crawled under it yet, but do any of the bushings have any grease zerks? If not, I guess I could just hit the bushings...

Try To Keep The Abuse to a Minimum . . .

I've only been off-road once without my family (wife & 2 boys). They love going and yes, let them drive. Makes for more fun. Make sure to get a good set of tires - and just go... BJ

One OEM 5-spoke 18" Wheel Wanted

I need one 18" OEM LR3 wheel - 5-spoke preferred. 02/22/2010 - think I got one on eBay tonight. We'll have to see how this turns out. 03/07/2010 - 5-spoke arrived, mounted another Fuzion XTi tire, choice of tire size will not fit under car without some under-car modifications. Looking...

I just saw some OEM Running Boards on eBay yesterday. Anyone know of they will work with the mud flaps or do the front flaps have to come off? BJ

    Hubcentric Spacers

No rubbing at all, and I've since changed out the tires to 285/60-18s. No, I don't have a pair on the front. A stud broke on that pair, and the supplier at RoadKillCustoms.com has not responded to any calls or emails. I ordered another pair from a recommended source, MotorTech Sports...

    Fog Lights

I've got two lights (one lens broken), one light cover, LR3 switch, and wiring harness that is supposed to work for the LR3 although it was for a RRC I think. I got it from another member, but actually all I needed was the mounting stuff at the bottom of each light (which I've used). I think...

    Increase mileage on LR3

I can't badmouth the Prius, it's my wife's favorite car and the way I see it, every drop she saves is another drop for me. I had figured on 6-9 MPG for off-road, so I'm good. Didn't see any Hummers out there either.

    Increase mileage on LR3

It may be hard to believe, but I didn't buy the car for its mileage and when I found it getting 19.2 MPG on the highway and 16 MPG around town, I was pleased. Then I put big tires on and lifted it, Killing the good mileage. Went to about 13 MPG (ODO mileage adjusted for tire size) around...

    OE Sill Protectors

FWIW: Rover Specialties has a stage 1 frame to sill Slide Plate which has other options if needed. I'm looking at the Stage II option, with my larger tires and lift, my really short wife needs a step, and I don't want steps that will fold up on the first rock. BJ

Anyone Interested In Group Buy: Sump Guard For the Discovery 3

Ya know, I was lookin' at that cover (layin in the garage) and had that thought of cutting the hole and reinstalling it, but I have to repair the crack I put in it first and buy all new retainers. Prying that cover out from behind the brush bar took its toll. Broke many retainers, lost a few...

Anyone Interested In Group Buy: Sump Guard For the Discovery 3

I have the OE Brush Bar and don't know yet if there is going to be a problem. The Brush Bar was in the way and made it difficult to remove the front recovery point cover. I actually had to break it (the cover) to get it off, the lower part of the bar that bolts to the attachment plate is the...
