Effect of cold on LR3
I spoke with the guys at Expedition Exchange about an Optima option. They apparently looked hard at what it would take to make one fit. Some dremel tool carving on the battery was necessary they said. Yikes! So they did not recommend it. -

Tire size question for new LR3...
The small spare on the non HD equipped models is the same diameter as the stock tires. When you move to a different diameter tire from stock you need to have a spare with the same diameter. Not sure of the exact damage if you used a smaller diameter spare but I would not take the chance. -
