Great, another one of these threads. Did we need another one?
It seems to me that there has only been one wide-spread problem (we don't know how wide) reported with the MY14. That's the engine shut down issue. Several of us have MY14s and have had zero trouble. The rest of the "problems"...
I should know this, because I have a MY14... does anyone know if there is a way to get the transmission into neutral without turning on the ignition or even having power? I will have to look in the owner's manual.
I got off pavement quite a bit during the trip, but it wasn't really off roading at all. We were outside of Ashville visiting family for an overnight. I SO wanted to go to the LR Experience at the Biltmore. Maybe next year.
I agree, that would be scary! I doubt that's what is actually happening here though. If so, that should be grounds for a major recall. This is a transmission and motor that has been used in other vehicles for some time now. I'd think something major like that would have been exposed by now.
I don't think LR is trying to hide anything by not publishing torque curves because my butt dyno tells me that the MY14 is very capable, but I too would like to see the torque curves for comparison.
I just completed a 1,500+ mile two week trip from the East Coast down through the mountains...
The MY14 goes into park automatically if you are not in park when you turn off the ignition and the LR isn't in motion. The gear selector knob also retracts back into the console. I bet the engine shut down because of some electrical issue and then the LR went into park and the knob retracted...
I agree with everything you said. The InControl apps would have been nice; especially if one of them was a remote start (I don't think they have that). I don't care for wood steering wheels and I like the wheels on the black package that I got on mine.
After having a 2014 for 3 weeks, I love the knob. I really do.
For purposes of comparison, the SCV6 runs at under 2000 rpm (1800-1900 rpm or so) at 65 mph on the highway in D. I will try to notice some other speeds/rpms.
The noise happened in the exact same place under the exact same conditions this morning. It's definitely something mechanical and not the audio system. The transmission harmonics theory is looking like the culprit.
Yes, I have HD. Interesting theory about the transmission, especially if they've had it happen in other models with that setup. I swear I heard it on Saturday when I was sitting at rest at a stop sign. If so, then I doubt it's the transmission because I wasn't moving. I wasn't really...
I also noticed that the cover over the manual key hole on my driver door handle seems loose. Any tricks to getting that thing to be more secure? My dealer warned me that it can be easily damaged and then it will just fall off.
I definitely heard the noise this morning. The radio was on, but not loud. I was at a stop light waiting to turn left. ECO mode was on and had kicked in while I was at the light. When the light turned green I took my foot off the brake, the engine fired up, and I began to move at a normal...
The nav direction volume was LOUD! I couldn't figure out how to turn it down. My wife said she figured it out, but I didn't ask how she did it. I'm just sitting down now to finish reading the owners manual. I'll keep an eye out for that setting for you.
Congrats! I'm loving mine so far! I'm sure you'll love yours!
The best part is I keep getting surprised by little things that make me love it even more. Like the puddle lights at night... and the Meridian stereo... wow.
The only annoying thing so far is that I like using the curb view...
