Okay cool. I guess it's possible then maybe 1 or 2 of the calipers need replacing, but I couldn't believe my ears when they said I need new calipers in general haha. I don't trust mechanics for the most part, and since I don't have a lot of spare cash, that's probably for the best. I'm a...
I searched the threads but didn't find much info about maintenance on the brakes for a 97 disco. I need to replace the fluid and replace the rotors and pads eventually. What kind of mission am I looking at here?
Just an update: I drove again on snowy mountain roads this weekend and put it in "high" differential lock and I was cruising at 40mph with no problem. I suggest putting it in diff lock on snowy roads. Without it, I was slidding all around the turns.
See that's what I thought. I've never had any problem with my brakes at all and now they're telling me to replace perfectly good calipers! I could see replacing the little springs inside the calipers, but the calipers themselves seem fine. I'm replacing the 2 tires this week or so. I just didn't...
I plan on going with Bilsteins when I get the cash to replace them. They are very well known and respected in the shock industry, as well as Koni, but British Atlantic sells a Bilstein kit that looks good. Bilsteins are top of the line.
PS I like that teal paint on your Disco.
So I take my disco 1 to get the tires rotated yesterday. I have two old tires on it that right away they say are going to blow out on me because they're really cracked. So I'm like, okay, I need new tires, no big deal. Then they rotate them and they tell me there's stuff I need to do: Replace...
Try upgrading to slotted Brembo rotors and some high performance pads like those "green stuff" pads, I forget the company name, it starts with an E. I'm probably going to be upgrading my brakes pretty soon.
Okay thanks for the tips. I was definetely going a little too fast for the slippery road. So differential lock isn't needed, or would it help? If I use it should it be in "Low"?
Okay, I have a 97 Disco 1 and I went up to the mountains yesterday while it was snowing. I had some chains from my dads truck that I'm pretty sure will fit but I decided to try heading up the hill without having to stop and put them on. Around the corners I lost control a few times. The brakes...
Thanks Joey. After your post I went out and tinkered around with the front end. First I removed the lower spoiler piece. I kind of liked the look of it off, but I kinda like the look of it on, so later I put it back on. Next I took off the plastic corner bumpers. After that I took out the little...
PS... are those light connectors that don't go to anything (near the headlights) fog lights or driving lights? I'm assuming they are for stock fog lights because a lot of discoverys come with fog lights on the lower spoiler, but mine didn't. I was just checking to make sure those are for fog...
Replaced the bolt and transmission fluid today and also filled the power steering reserve up. I made the dumbest mistake though. I was working at night and I grabbed this black castrol bottle that I thought was transmission fluid and I started pouring it in and it was brown instead of red and I...
Alright the wheels are turned, so that might be affecting the level. I get my bolt tomorrow, and I can refill the fluids and see what's going on. I cleaned the dripping from around the area it was dripping and I don't see any new dripping, so maybe it's nothing... I'll check the power steering...
There used to be a working link to it on another site, but it's not on there anymore and I erased my harddrive, so I lost the copy I had of it. If you have any type of workshop manual for the Discovery 1 (4.0 gasoline engine) I really need a copy. PM me and I'll send you my e-mail address if you...
Shoot okay... I know the power steering had just been done before I bought it, but I think it's low on fluid. It's that little resevoir behind the drivers headlight, right?
A while ago I was wondering what those lights did; they never seemed to light up. I finally realized there's a button on the dash that turns them on. I found one was out and I replaced it with a new bulb and it worked fine. So maybe it's just a bad bulb or something wrong with the wiring itself.
I called atlantic british and he said it could be the power steering or the transmission cooler line... they both are in that area, so I have to clean it and figure out what exactly is leaking. Hopefully is not major. I'm pissed in case you didn't notice.
Link doesn't work anymore. Went to their site and it looks like they removed the disco manual. Anyone have it? I need it and I lost the one I had when I erased my harddrive.
