Off Road in NC/SC Jim Timmerman NRA

For those interested in off roading in the Western NC/NWestern SC area, I found the Jim Timmerman Natural Resources Area at Jocassee Gorges. It is about 20-30 minutes north of Clemson (were I was visiting my middle son). A couple of links describing it and map...

    Transmission Fluid DIY?

By the way, some info on the manual, not sure what ATF this would be "Automatic Transmission/Transaxle - V8 5.0L Petrol/TDV6 3.0L Diesel - Maintenance CAUTION: Use only Shell M1375.4 Automatic transmission fluid. Use of any other fluids may result in a transmission malfunction or failure...

    Transmission Fluid DIY?

I have not done it, will probably do after 50K miles. I do have instructions from a British shop manual, seems simple enough. I do it often on cars that go to the racetrack, and always do the "measure and replace the same amount" method. Keep in mind you can not replace 100% of the Trans...

    $340 for an oil change!!!

In my experience (mostly with non LR dealerships) serviced departments, they will charge you a low bit and not do the work. I have had marked my own filter (I used to use an ink pen and write the date of install on it) and when I or my wife would get from dealer, after a full oil/filter...

    Aftermarket Brakes

I am on my second set of EBC Greens, 40K miles on truck and original discs. No problems whatsoever. If you do the work yourself, I recommend a pair of disc calipers to measure thickness, to avoid paying extra for unnecessary parts that have plenty of life yet. That way you can measure discs...

    Overland Expo East

I didn't see a thread started on this subject so I figured I start one. If redundant, please delete it. On October 3-5, near Asheville NC, in a place called Taylor Ranch the Overland Expo East event will be held. I signed up to go last week, never been to one of these, but looks like a great...

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

Great question, I haven't. When I have some time and remember to do it, will take it to an independent near my home. But we have grown so used the service reminder at startup that we don't notice it anymore, just forgot about it really. There is no easy way without spending anywhere from...

Just picked up EBC pads and rotors

That's good to hear. When my rotors are done I will see if I can take them to the lab for a Rockwell test on the steel, bring some of my racing gears and compare/measure how softer they are relative to Brembos or Stoptechs.

Just picked up EBC pads and rotors

Nope, no turning rotors unless they are warped. I only had one time on an old honda minivan that had actual warped rotors. So I just replace pads and bed them in. This may incite tremors for the purists out there, but that's what I have been doing on my cars for 30 years.

    Wheel Nut Failure

Wish I could, but it's the dealer, warranty work will have me there again. I keep my expectations very low when it comes to dealer service dept, and not just LR, but any car I have ever had. Maybe it's just my luck, even last week my wife came home from Fiat "studio" after going there to...

    Wheel Nut Failure

You bet. I have to use a 30 in 3/4 black pipe to extend by 18 in breaker bar. Once roadside assistance is up, AAA baby, AAA.....

    Wheel Nut Failure

Doing the brake pad job this morning and encountered this (see pic) on the security nut when removed. Dealers and tire places do have a way to torque the crap out of the wheels when they put them back on, only using air guns.

Just picked up EBC pads and rotors

Changed my brake pads for second time on the LR4, 34K miles. Rotors are only halfway through their life, fronts at 28.7+mm for example. My wife drives the car all day around town, stopping and going traffic. I am surprised others have had to replace rotors already. When removing the brake...

    Lr4 Mpg

Quijote, I had a VW GOLF TDI, could get 54 mpg if I drove the speed limit between Charlotte NC and Washington DC. Its pretty unreal range on those engines, hope you enjoy it. When I drive the LR4 in town, and feather the gas, I can get 19 mpg most of the time. Lots of slow drivers in...

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

There are a few posters who have asked dealers what they use for their oil changes (Jaguar and Land Rover), on other threads, not surprisingly they buy Valvoline by the barrel because is "cheaper". Go figure. I track an E46 M3, that's an expensive oil change. But if you belong to BMWCCA, at...

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

You got to buy whatever you feel you have to, its your car. I have been using Mobil one for 33K miles, change every 7.5K. Will continue with Mobil 1 as long as they are listing the spec as meeting or exceeding.

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

Mobil page still shows WSS-M2C925-A http://mobil.cosan.com/en/veiculos/carro/mobil-1-5w-20 "Protection for the maximum interval between recommended oil changes. Helps to reduce fuel consumption. Meets the requirements of Chrysler HEMI engines with MDS (Multi Displacement Systems)...

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

I agree, I have used Mann, Mahle, and Bosch in many European cars with no issues. Most car companies don't make their filters, they are made by the aforementioned (big word use here, double points). My concern with "Miami British part", because I don't know their reputation.

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

They told me it was a "Miami British" part, not a LR part even though they show the LR part in the photo with the part number (on it) when you buy it, and that "they have sold lots of these with no issues", and "the photo of the LR part is there for illustration purposes only". I have no reason...

Just picked up EBC pads and rotors

Great idea. FYI, I have been running EBC Greenstuff pads for over 18K miles, still have plenty of pad left. The Yellows are great too, but they are also a racing compound I used on my track toys.

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

Have any of you guys had experience with Miami British parts? I recently ordered an oil filter from them (30K service DIY), and it came in a box with no markings, filter has no markings, looks like typical Chinese knockoff. I reached to them and got a bogus answer, saying it was the same. I...

    2011 LR4 Metropolis - DIY service at 80k

That sounds excellent, good job. Question, did you do a brake fluid flush or just a bleed? I have a Motive bleeder, so flush is doable. Just don't know of any issues with LR ABS if pushing fluid down with pressure. By the way, engine air filter change too?
