    I had the same issue, only on the passenger side. Took it in and they fixed it while I waited. They never did say what the problem/fix was.

    Yes drill it out. I've changed out my rails several times and always add a little lithium grease when re-installing the bolts.

    Are you sure you need to cut the gutter trim? On my 2016, I just needed to pop off the hole tabs.
