    Losing oil - burning smell

Oil leak found. On the back side of the valve cover. The leak finally spread around to where I could see some oil build-up trickling down to the exhaust manifold and bolts below. Going to order new gaskets and bolts and see if the problem is solved.

    Losing oil - burning smell

I have looked underneath quite a bit and have not been able to find a leak. I may need to look into some die. It had probably been a month since I had last checked the oil level. There is not even a drop on a clean garage floor so it can't be coming out too fast. The SES light just came on...

    Losing oil - burning smell

99 Disco II w/125,000 miles I changed my oil this weekend and noticed that my Disco lost over a quart of oil since the last change just over two months ago. I am not leaking any fluids on the ground so I am assuming I am losing it thru the rings. I have also noticed a slight burning smell...

SES light - MAF cleaner solves for a while

I did get the codes read at auto zone. I have them written down at home, but they were the corresponding codes to the MAF sensor and the two O2 sensors. The MAF cleaner spray seems to clear them all, but not for long.

SES light - MAF cleaner solves for a while

My SES light goes on and off fairly often. I bought some MAF cleaner and sprayed down the MAF sensor good. The light turned off for a week and then came back on. Any suggestions on cleaning it better or is it time for a new MAF sensor? 99 Disco II with 115K.

    upkeep maintenance

99 Disco II with 115k miles I do a lot of driving for work to remote areas in the US. Trying to avoid any common things that would cause me to get stuck in the boonies. It runs fine, replaced the water pump and timing belt at 80k, replaced the alternator at 90k. I'm thinking that I should be...

Thanks. It turned off after several cycles. I'm going to leave it be unless it becomes a recurring problems. I appreciate the help.

Service Engine Light - Gas Cap?

I had the codes read this morning at Auto Zone and it was P0161 which I was told is the O2 sensor. The vehicle has 107K miles on it. Do I replace the sensors or is it a problem that the sensors detect?

Service Engine Light - Gas Cap?

Yesterday the service engine light kicked on in my '99 Disco II. After looking at the vitals and finding nothing, I thought about the gas cap (since I am in Dallas and it was 108 outside). It had come lose a little bit so I tightened it up and turned the light off by unhooking the battery for a...

    Hood release lever not working

I was able to fix the cable without too much trouble. I detached the lever from the side wall and pulled the cable with a vice grip. The hood popped right up. A little lube around the lock and down into the cable seemed to clear it right up. Now she opens without trouble.

    Hood release lever not working

I pulled the hood release lever this afternoon and it wouldn't release the hood latch even though it did feel like there was tension in the lever. The last few times the lever has gone the full motion before the hood finally released. I'm not sure if there is a cable or something in there that...

replacing brake pads on 99 Disco II

no no, I appreciate the help. This is the stuff I need to know. I'm trying to learn to do this stuff now that my rover is getting older. I keep telling my wife I'm going to drive it forever, so that could be expensive if I don't do this stuff myself!

replacing brake pads on 99 Disco II

I took my car by a local mechanic that I trust and it looks as if I had the front rotors/pads done not too long ago. I don't recall doing it, but he said the front look pretty new still. He did say that the rear pads need to be replaced and the rotors could go either way. So, I'll do the rear...

replacing brake pads on 99 Disco II

The truck has 85K on it. This will be the second time doing the brakes. The first time was at the dealer with 30K on it. I didn't think they needed to be done, but they did them anyway with the 30K service. The brakes don't pulsate when stopping hard. I had a dealer fix my water pump about 8K...

replacing brake pads on 99 Disco II

How do I replace the brake pads on a 99 Disco II? The LR dealer here in town wants $440 to replace them and I believe I can order the parts from atlanticbritish for around $200 for all 4. The rotors seem fine...no metal on metal or any vibration under the pedal. Thanks.

    Discovery II alternator

Can someone tell me how to replace the alternator on my 99 Disco II? Is there anything more than removing the fan shroud, then the serpentine belt, and the alternator itself? How to I release the serpentine belt? Thanks.

Slowly loosing coolant - 99 DII

I did pressure test it and I found a small leak in the radiator hose so I replaced it. Retested and can't find anything, though the smell is still there after I drive it. Any unsuspecting place to look and see if it is the head gasket?
