It has been a bit since I've done this. I cut one of O2 sensor wire hangers back. Removed the transmission cross member. Removed the passenger side cat. Removed driver's side cat.
I did this on my back in the driveway.
For some random bits I've had good luck on eBay. I needed just the plastic clips for the bottom of a window. JLR would only sell the whole assembly. I messaged a seller asking for just the clips and we were able to make a deal.
I loved having the tank out in the mountain west. I topped off on gas before entering Yellowstone and pretty much drove around for a week and didn't refuel until I was in Jackson. Helped a lot on the interstate too. Half as many fuel stops keeps you moving right along.
If we are dealing with...
The fuel injectors are noisy and it is there to cut down on NVH. I run no injector covers, no main cover*, and no hood insulation.
*On some vehicles (Audi?) that foam engine cover prevents the paint on the hood from overheating.
Find someone with a 3d scanner and get a sheet of plywood cut to fit. Put some neoprene rubber on the backside and an array of T-nuts for anchor points.
I got my LR4 back a couple of days ago. 8199 miles at 16.1mpg from Massachusetts to Utah to all around and back.
Things that went wrong
- Aux fuel tank fuse holder fell apart. Easy enough to fix.
- Driver's window clip broke.
- P026A "charge air cooler efficiency below threshold.". This...
FYI, if you remove the oil cooler during any service the cooler from the scV8 fits. It has a few more layers to the heat exchanger, whether it is worth it is debatable.
How was the quality of the Davico? I bought one for my old Volvo and had to go over the welds with my stick welder.
I chose factory when my LR4 needed a new cat because I didn't want to be messing around with a poorly fitting unit on my back in the driveway.
You may want to consider changing out the idlers and tensioners while you are right there.
The slippery slope of the parts cannon can add up fast. In my mind, new belts equals new idlers and tensioners.
I successfully removed the whole engine with the AC condenser left intact. You can get the radiator out while leaving that other stuff, it is fiddly though. If you are replacing the radiator, I'd also replace the charge air cooler.
I like vacuum filling through the reservoir tank, make sure...
