Well, pulling the center console is easy. Remove the plastic trim surrounding the shifter, and pop off the diff shifter cover. Twist the knob off of the diff shifter.....and then remove the rubber mat that is covering the console. You'll have two screws toward the front to remove. Then remove the screws in the cubby bin. two more underneath the window switches and you are set. As far as the dash lights surrounding the gauges, drop your tilt steering as far as it goes, and remove the two screws you see there. Pop it out, and go to town.....

Edit: After a thorough cleaning, superglue the rubber mat back down, and you're set.

There is no need to remove the cigarette lighter from the console. Once you have the centre console loose, gently lift it over the transfer lever. You will find a couple of wires attached to the cigarette lighter. Just pull them off the terminals. I,m not sure if they are different sized terminals, so it would be a good idea to remember which wire goes to which terminal when it comes time to refit the console.

i never want to do that again

dman, that took more time then i thought it would. Taking off the center console was a pain. after taking out all of the screws, you have to angle the console so it comes out. when i did it i has to put so much force on the e-brake it got stuck, i had to hammer out the pin so the cabl;e would take the pressure off it, then putting it back on was hard also. everything else was ok but it is almost impossible to get the console off. thanks for all the help.

Sorry it hear that you had to wrestle with it, however, the thought that will make you feel better, is that the next time you do it, it will be easier.
