I installed an Amazon purchased CarPlay adapter. Wireless CarPlay Receiver SmartBox for Land Rover

Took about 2 hours since I was careful when opening the dash and console.

It works fine but sometimes takes some time to connect automatically. If I go onto my iPhone settings and connect the Wi-Fi to the adapter manually it works immediately.

The volume steering wheel control works but previously the forward and back button would advance the song or track, but it doesn't work.

Waze and music work fine.

Better than using my iPhone on the dash.

@richord - can you detail what specific model you used and what instructions you followed (did they come with the device or did you watch YouTube)...?

Sounds like a great install - any photos?

The one I installed is: https://a.co/d/06rceM9e

The videos I used were:

In the first video he removes the center console cover which makes the removal of the side panels around the vertical console much easier. When you remove the side panels, it's possible one of the clips will fall off so have a magnetic pickup tool to fish it out.

There are a lot (about 16) of torx screws to remove, so I marked the position of each one so I would remember where they all went.

I tested it out before putting everything back.

The only quirk I discovered is that it's best if the phone is not covered. In my case my jacket has a foil liner that acts like a faraday cage. If I keep my phone in my belt holder and my coat covers it, the pairing between the phone and the adapter takes longer. If I take my phone out and out in on the console, its pairs quickly. In my other cars, the pairing isn't impeded by my coat. As it gets warmer here, that won't be a problem for me :)

I've done a few installs like this on other cars and this one was the easiest and operates CarPlay correctly. .

So long story short. You loose your navigation. Does the new unit offer its own version of navigation? What about the stock antenna mounted to the roof? Is that no longer functional as well?

Yes, you lose the factory navigation which wasn't great. I use Waze or Google for navigation.
