I am having serious difficulties I have a 1995 Disco 300TDI which just started to overheat. Within driving for about a mile it hits the red and starts to spray coolant from the expansion tank.
I have emptied the system and took out the thermostate and flushed the system using a hose, firstly the Rad and then through the engine the water flowed through clean. I then refilled the system through the bleed screw on the Thermos housing but I could only put about 5-6 litres of fluid in (the handbook says 11 litres)before the coolant started to overflow from the expansion tank (the thermostate was still not in place). On trying to drive and heat up the same happened after about a mile the temp gauge hit HOT and started to spary from the expansion tank. Whilst cold and ticking over I placed my hand ove the expansion tank without the top in place and I could feel the pressure building up under my hand and that was whilst the engine was cold!! any one have any answers I thought the water pump but someone told me that I would know when I put the water through the system with a hose but there was nothing obvious to show that there also is no evidence of water contaminating the oil to show if the Headgaskett is gone but would that be the case on a Disco, is there any answer to my problem or anyway of testing the water pump or check the Head Gaskett has gone??

My guess is the spring on your radiator cap is stuck. Replacing the cap should solve the problem.
