So yesterday I was changing my spark plugs and I got this new torque wrench to get them to the right torque. The first one goes in fine, but on the second one, the torque wrench never clicked and I torqued and torqued and all of a sudden it got all loose so I thought it was done, but I go to put the wire on and the plug is all loose so I try taking it out and only the top half comes out! The threaded part was stuck in the engine! I tried everything but I had to go to the hardware store and by a bolt extractor set and eventually got it out and put another plug in there, but the thread was a little messed up but I eventually got it in. What a nightmare. The rest went easy, I just stopped using the torque wrench after that.

oh my god....so what lesson did we learn? dont trust torque wrenches with EVERY little bolt! spark plugs arent too particular in HAVING to be torqued up all the way, now, lug nuts could be important with a torque wrench--or do it the easy way, lean on it and drive a few miles and lean on the lug wrench again!

lol no kidding. It was an extremely close call. If it had gone any worse I'd probably be looking at a couple thousand dollars in repairs I'm guessing. Anyways, I got it out and replaced it with a new one finally, and the others went smoothly, and the car runs great now so it's all good at the moment.

Spark Plug info on a 96 discovery I own

Changed all 8 spark plugs and 2 of them just seemed something was wrong. after they were all in a started it up. it seemed to be misfiring then going dead at stop light unless I kept my foot on the gas. took it to a repair shop down the road. they were not certified land rover mechanics. well after having it for two days and 700.00 later they said that they had to re-thread 3 of the 8. I got about 20 min heading home on the freeway it felt like it was running only running on 3 of the 8 spark plugs. took it to AAMCO and they told me they couldn't even look at the work the previous shop did to see if they did it correctly with out charging me there hour rate because they were unsure if they would be able to get the plugs back into place correctly shouldn't have the first repair shop re-threaded all 8 and not just 3. wouldn't that make 3 of the hole bigger than the others?
any help on this subject would be very helpful
