This has been a continuinig nuisnce of a problem with my '94 D1, 157000 miles. It runs fine during normal driving, the problem arrives when I stop for a light or stop sign. After sitting at idle for about 15 seconds the rpm's will drop to about 500rpm and run rough like it is only firing on 6 or 7 cylinders. If I try to pull out at a slow steady normal pace it acts like it doesn't want to take gas, kinda of sputtering and shuddering, etc.. If I shove the gas pedal down hard it will take off and run great until I must stop again. If I am driving thru town when this is going on, it will also start to get hot.. Again at normal highway driving the temps are fine. Here are the list of things checked, changed or replaced in the past year or so, some where in an effort to solve this problem. The fuel pump, fuel filter, injectors, O2 sensors,, complete tune up with new cap, rotor button, wires, etc.., coil, MAF, cleaned stepper motor, and other items, not counting the transmission and Tcase.... I have done some testing and have noticed that if I unplug the MAF it will run much better, the RPM's stiil drop some at a stop but will take gas without putting the pedal to the floor. This was my deciding factor for changing the MAF, but it does the same thing using 3 different MAF's. The only code I get is "47" refering to the O2 sensor which have both been replaced?? I have also checked the fuel preasure both before and during a time when it is running rough and it remains steady! HELP.

Hey Martin....

By the way if anyone has any ideas on this one... please speak up. I have even road with Martin on a test drive with this rover and I have no clue... If it did this while driving I would have said the VSS, but since this only happens when he stops I know I am for one stumped.

Well I'm going to try running with the temp sensor unplugged on the way home as he did and will post my results after I get home..

Well unplugging the temp sensor didn't change anything.. Still does the drop idle and rough running until I mash the throttle down for a moment..

I wonder if the fuel temp sensor could be the issue?

Vapor lock?

Try the fuel temp sensor. Just curious when you remove the gas cap (where you fill up) do you get alot of hissing? I've heard of this happening on a Ford pickup where they would get Vapor Lock. It would cause the engine to heat up while it sat Idle. Plus it would sputter and almost die unless he gassed it hard. I will call my buddy and find out what the fix was and post it later.

Fix was to hill billie to tell. But he did tell me that it can happen with fuel injected systems. It was thought at one time that it could only happen on a Carberated fuel system. He also mentioned the fuel temp sensor. Hope this helps
