lr3 base - adding aftermarket speakers

hey everyone.

just bought an lr3 base.

has anyone put new speakers in without adding an amplifier? is this possible? and will this sound good?

i do not think the system is that great and want a better system without spending more then 700 including installation.

any help is appreciated

Good speakers alone will cost you more than $700. Not sure you will see much improvement if you buy aftermarket low end or middle of the line speakers.

Adding speakers to a Base model will require you to convert the amplified signal from the head unit into a gizmo (can't for the life of me remember the name of it), strip it down to the signal, run it through a new more powerful amplifier(s) and feed it to your upgraded speakers.

There is a thread here on this forum about adding subwoofers and so forth, and it's a recent topic on www.************** as well.
