Hello everyone!
I'm the owner of an '11 LR4 (5.0 V8) that has concerns with the transmission in my vehicle. It has approximately 80K miles on it now and I'm experiencing several problems, especially when the ambient temperatures are over 90°F. When you first start the truck and select reverse, it just sort of jams into gear. It's not a smooth transition from park to reverse. When you start off going forward it seems to be ok, but as the car warms up the shifts start to get slower and they're not smooth at all. Each shift especially 1-2, 2-3 is clunky and it makes your head move forward and back. It's not the worst thing I've ever experienced but it's not how it's supposed to be. I've also noticed that when the temperature outside is over about 90°F which has been a lot recently, the vehicle shifts the worst and I hear what sounds like torque converter shudder in 3rd gear. I've been told 10 different things by 10 different people and I haven't seen a lot of posts on here or any other forum particularly about the LR4 exhibiting the same thing. I know the ZF 6HP transmissions have a history of valve block issues, but I've no clue if that could cause the torque converter shudder. I don't know if I just need to do a filter and fluid change or if that's going to make it worse. I've been told by some it will improve or fix my issues and others that it will break the transmission to change the fluid and filter.
At this point there's no stored faults, I've reset the transmission adaptations with iidtool and followed some procedure I saw that said to accelerate to ≈55mph (6th gear), then coast all the way to a stop, hold brakes 15 second and repeat 5 times, all to reset the adaptations. It didn't really seem to do anything at all.
If anyone has experienced these issues or knows someone who has, I'd really appreciate some information/recommendations.
Thank you!
