It’s like the leather has shrunk and now it’s too small. I mean, even the threads are pulling out of the seams.
Based on your clues, it sounds like possible moisture damage. Do you have a factory LR logo'd windshield currently? If so, it still could be a replacement but if it's a Pilkington or other brand, that would signal a replacement in the past for sure. My point is that maybe the windshield was replaced and not installed properly. Have you had it long enough to go through any rain with it to see if there is water entering around the seals?
I’m sure this thing has to come off without taking the dash apart to the firewall right?
Lol shrinkage.Not really sure but you'll know soon. As @ryanjl mentioned, you may be the first here to report an issue like this on an LR4. Seen cracking due to sun damage but not this kind of shrinkage (don't you hate shrinkage??)
Sucks that it was in a place where most people wouldn't inspect closely. I have noticed sun-damaged exterior windshield cowling before but never looked that closely just on the other side of the glass to where the dash tucks in.
